ISO: 1964 Cutlass F85

I have a long post in the Newbie section explaining my quest to find a '64 Cutlass. If you know of any solid cars for sale I would love to see them. I would drive to about any corner of the US to pick up the right car...

they might not be plentiful but they are out there from $2k to $20k depending on condition.you might want to establish where you want to be $$ and/or condition.if you use "searchtempest 1964 cutlass" there are a few across the u.s. jc

***This was helpful!!!
Only found 4 across the country.. 1 was really nice but out of my price range right now..
If I found a car today it would need to be around 10k or less to make it work.. but I'm thinking by the time I find the right one for me I'll be able to afford a bit more lol

64-65 especially "post" cars are getting hard to find. There's a lot of junk out there selling for 10K because the market is bringing it. So, you buy one in this price range and depending on what your goals are and your skill level, time line, extra cash, space etc-you will be in it $$$$$ way more than what you thought initially over time. That said, you could save your money up and get into the 16-20K range that someone invested a lot more initially.Just some thoughts....

I completely agree with everything you just said. I learned that with my first car. (Camaro)

*BTW. We can be friends. I want to build a touring car just like you have....

I use Searchtempest a lot. I suggest trying several different search terms, as sellers often aren't accurate in their ad titles. Try 1964 oldsmobile, 1964 F-85, 1964 F84, etc. Yeah, you will get more cars than you want (like Deltas) but there aren't enough for sale that the number will be very big.

it's amazing the different results you get between searching "olds" and "oldsmobile"

Red face

Dkalt-there's tons of pictures and notes in this Club on early A-Body 64-65 Old's builds. I'm in the process of replacing the freeze plugs-I still cannot believe that happened to me, the car has not been in the street yet!!. The freeze plugs ones the motor mounts will be the challenge. The engine for now is a 67 400E with 65 A-heads.

330 2barrel has low compression pistons. I would need some detailed pictures of the underside-good chance it needs a new floor and trunk. That chrome strip that goes across the front of the hood is missing, I believe that's a one year only part-double check that. But if like and can do that kind of work, it's worth taking a better look at for the price. Plus a car hauler from Seattle to Nebraska maybe another 6-8 hundred $$$ to consider adding to your investment. I wish you lived here in the Dallas area I could help take it apart-been there done that! Hopefully you will find an example that was in better shape than mine, and I held out for a base "post car"

Im impressed with the amount of work you have done. It looks great. It's going to be awhile before I can claim to have a car like that...

As for the distance... Im not shy to load up a trailer and hit the road. I've got spring break coming up and I have about ten days. Would be a perfect time to get a car.

Nothing so far.... I ended up picking up a foxbody project to keep me busy... I basically came to realize I wont be able to afford the car I want for a couple years... so I picked up something I can afford for now... .and then we ll see if I stumble on the right one...

dkalt, save your $$$ for a few years. I may sell my 64 F-85 Pro-Touring car by then and move on my final build before I retire. There are not many 64 F-85's "post cars" out there that are built like this one, if at all. To give you an idea I would need 30K for the car. There's over 10K just in the Hotchkis suspension with a Moser 9 inch! Good luck there out there, just keep your ear to the wall. I will be on the 2019 Power Tour with her next year.

That's good to know. I am definitely going to keep that in the back of my mind. That's the kind of car I would LOVE to get into. Who knows maybe I'll bring my fox on the pourtour and we can meet up

Not sure if you’re still looking, but I’m selling my ‘64 F85 Cutlass Holiday Coupe, with 5.3l LS swap and 4L60e 4 speed trans. All gauges work. Has OBD-II port. Drivetrain has 62k miles. All work was done at a professional hot rod shop.

You can email or text me. Life’s priorities have changed, so while I absolutely love this car, I just don’t get to drive it much. Also, bonus for anyone who’s ever wanted to trade their normal daily driver for a muscle car - I could use something as a new family car (sedan, suv), so I’m open to possible full or partial trades!
