70-72 Cutlass Convertible

Looking for a 70-72 Cutlass convertible in the midwest area. Not looking for a show car, but no complete basket case either. A project to good driver condition. I'm in Indianapolis, but will travel for the right car. Thanks for the help.

72 conv.- more west than mid

is california too far?
I' own 72 cutlass conv. 442w/hurst matador red.

it's a project car... because
I recently cracked a bearing and bent the crankshaft.
I'm trying to figure out whether to fix and keep or sell as is...

i've owned the car for thirteen years after purchasing it completely restored from Fraser Dante.

you might want to up your budget slightly. The convertibles usually go for more. If you find a convertible for 6k it'll probably need a fair amount of work which would offset your initial savings that you got by buying a cheaper car. I paid 11k for my 72 convertible and it was driver quality. I live in california so im used to over paying for things though!

I paid 5800 for a rough driver about 3 years ago. Need to still get the rear quarters done and some other things. Probably in todays market it was a 3-4000 car.

Good luck

I bought a decent project on valentines day of 2010 in San antionio texas. When I got the car it was running pretty good no smoke or anything alot of new parts on the car brand new eldebrock carb and intake fuel pump gas tank distributor and a few other small things. It need two rear floor pans and as far as th rest of the body very minor rust for the age of the car quarter were ok fender were ok. needed top and complete interior.and ofcourse painting. I ended of giving $4700 so like I said good luck at the time I thought I paid to much but I have still been looking every where on line and locally and I have seen worse car for more money and like some other have said some times you get lucky and come across one in good condition for a good price but when the top goes down the price goes up

i talked to the guy about his 71 SX. he said he would think about a price and let me know. he did say that the brakes went out when he was parking it 10 years ago and he said he thinks there is some blistering of rust spots on the trunk lid from sitting in the pole barn.
