Yeah saw that one minimum looks a little high for a bench seat one and no AC. There is a nice one for sale on classic cars but they are asking 44k which I think is way too high. It hard to get a sense of what the true value is for these as there is little sales history. I bought one in high school in 1978 with 36k miles on it. Loved that car but unfortunately youth and bad decisions led to me totaling it 😕

My budget is to pay a reasonable price for a well restored and documented pace car, I would even pay slightly more than reasonable for the right car. My problem is trying to figure out what is reasonable. Is 44k for a very nice (#2) 350 Y74 reasonable? I'm thinking somewhere around 30k is more in line based on what I can find but I am by no means an expert. I am located outside of Houston, Texas and am not limited to location. The car I'm looking for I would simply drive back from wherever it is located.

On a side note why do I see some Y74s (or at least claim to be) with trumpet exhausts and some without I don't believe mine did. I also found my title with the VIN of my old Y74.... 342670Z300088 so if it is out there somewhere I want it back ��

 

I thought both the Cutlass & 442 Pace Cars had the cut-out bumper and trumpet tailpipes. Amazingly, the FE-2 sport suspension was not standard with the Cutlass Pace Car. Always thought it was part of the package. Should be able to find a Cutlass Pace Car at a reasonable price since it seems most want the 442 version. I actually prefer the Cutlass version. Also thought all of the Pace Cars were built in Lansing, like most of Oldsmobile's specialty cars, but from the VIN it seems they were not exclusive to Lansing.

Yes my Y74 was a California built car and did not have the bumper cutouts with trumpet exhaust. The Craigslist car is a bench seat car with shifter on the tree. I'm looking for a bucket seat vehicle. Im looking at the car below but feel it is way over priced.

It says or best offer, make one, you never know it might be accepted. If not it may at least get a conversation going that leads to what they will accept. Good luck in your quest.

 

I believe only the 442 455 cars had the cut-out bumper, the 350 cars got the regular one.... like the 70 W31 vs W30.

 

I bought a '70 pace car last year and paid $25000. It was a good daily driver but did have many imperfections from wear. I feel I paid a fair price and the car is one of the real deal Indy cars (number 25) I am currently restoring the car (frame off) and the final cost of the car plus restoration will be well about $45000 which is the asking price on the car listed above. I always get nervous however when people list on the ad how cheap it will be to make the car right. If its so cheap. why not do it before you sell it? I hope I do not get too upside down with my project but they are really GREAT cars!! (best ever Oldsmobile, maybe?)
