The final production day for Oldsmobile was April 29, 2004. The division's last car built was an Alero GLS 4-door sedan, which was signed by all of the Olds assembly line workers. It was on display at the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum located in Lansing, Michigan, until GM's bankruptcy when they retook possession of the car. It is now located at the GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, MI.

In the book "Oldsmobile, The Last Chapter," it say that this last Alero was actually built the previous day, April 28, 2004, and stored in a "locked crib so that nothing could happen to it." It was driven down the last part of the assembly line at about 10 a.m. on the 29th for the big ceremony marking the end of Oldsmobile.

It was the underside of the hood and the underside of the deck lid that were signed by employees. There is a photo of each in this book.

This book (really a booklet as it's only about 50 pages) was written by the same authors who wrote "Setting the Pace, Oldsmobile's First 100 Years" for the 1997 Centennial and was intended to finish the story. I'm sure they never dreamed they'd be writing what was effectively an obituary for Oldsmobile so shortly after their celebratory book in 1997.

Actually, from the a couple of line workers that I know at LCA, was that car #500 was built around 4-5 days earlier so everybody could sign it and prep the car for the ceremony.
