The Jetfire was the only 2dr HT in the Cutlass/F85 line in 1962. All the other 2drs were post sedans. Which is it?

FYI, that's a 2dr sedan, not a hardtop.

It's a 2-door "post" car meaning a pillar between the front and back windows on each side. A hardtop means no such post nor any frames around the side windows.

Both two and four-door cars can be hardtops. Four-doors are generally called sedans whether hardtops or with a center pillar, but there is such a thing as a 2-door sedan, although that terminology was never used by Olds that I'm aware of.

Here's a couple of pages out of the '62 Olds F-85 brochure. Olds called the 2-door pillared F-85 either a "sports" coupe or "club coupe."

Here's a page out of the '62 Jetfire brochure showing the two-door hardtop. No center pillar, no full frames around the side windows.

Coup means "overthrow the government"

Coupe REALLY means a two passenger vehicle, but is accepted today to be a two door vehicle. It USUALLY means a vehicle with a shorter wheelbase than a sedan (think 2+2 vs. a full size back seat). German automakers seem to think that any vehicle with a "fastback" is now a "coupe", even with four or more doors...

Sedans can be two or four doors. MOST people call a 2dr hardtop a "coupe" and a 2dr post car a "sedan". I realize Olds did not do that, making up the terms "Club Coupe" or "Sport Coupe" instead. As with "Rocket V8", those are marketing names.

Some car lines actually had different rooflines for the 2dr hardtop and 2dr sedan models:

When you roll down both side windows is there a B pillar or post or is it just wide open? It looks to me like you have no post so it would be a hardtop or am I just not seeing something? I hate looking at pics on my phone, can't make out anything on those angled pics!

See any weatherstrip around this door opening?

You don't, which means that this is NOT a hardtop. There would have to have been a roof rail weatherstrip for the glass to seal against. The 2dr sedans have a metal frame around the window on the door, so the weatherstrip is on that frame, not on the door opening.

And as I mentioned above, the ONLY hardtop in the 1962 F-85 line was the Jetfire, which this car is not.

That's a neat little car. Always liked that floor shifter and short console.

Great example to show how different they can be .. I had the 300 Deluxe like you show there.. As you know, it was very different from the Malibu or SS models.. I should have kept that 300
