1969 442 Post Coupe

Or is it? Saw this at a local car show today. No price given. Body cowl tag appears to decode as a '69 Cutlass S. Wouldn't the cowl tag info indicate 442 for the 1969 model year?

If I'm reading the '69 chassis service manual correctly, the 33677 in the cowl tag decodes as 3 = Oldsmobile, 36 = Cutlass V-8, 77 = body style (sports coupe).

If the car were a 442 Sports Coupe, that number would be 34477.

common for 69 442s to have a data plate with the Cutlass code on them. If the untampered VIN plate says 442, it's a 442

Thanks.

I was so intent on getting a photo of the cowl tag that it didn't even occur to me to get one of the VIN plate. Wish I had.

Not a bad looking car, it should have a white painted top according the the data tag.

I noticed that, too. Two different paint codes.

Yes, this is a well-documented snafu and nothing to lose sleep over. I think it's likely that in '68-9 more 442s had Cutlass data plates than had 442 data plates. Mine, for instance.

Anybody know if this is an anomaly peculiar to Lansing cars or did it occur at all plants?

When looking at the pics, I noticed trim where the roofline meets the rear quarter, then I checked out the data tag.

That's what I thought. Or guessed, anyway.
