Looks like a nice original car but IMO your price is too strong for the market. A friend of mine just bought a 79 Hurst Olds (low miles also) with power everything and the very rare astro roof option and that only cost 8800.00

Anyway, the market will provide you with feedback you can assess if you decide to adjust your price point. What engine in this car BTW?

His ad says "V6", which was the base engine in the Cutlass line that year. 231 cubic-inches.

As far as his price, yes, the price guides generally value this car at less than half what he's asking, but the low mileage might attract someone.

Looking at Collector Car Market Review's take on the '79 Cutlasses, this car is probably in, at best, #2 condition, for which the value given is $4,200. But then down below is says to subtract 15% for a V-6 engine, so that drops the value to about $3,800.

The Old Cars Price Guide values a '79 Supreme in showroom condition with a V-6 engine at about $4,500. This car is probably not quite up to showroom condition, so something in the low $4,000's is probably reasonable according to this source.

Put the two together, and we're looking at a car with value in the high $3,000's to low $4,000's range.



The problem that his car faces is the one that many cars of this vintage face, and that's the desirability factor. As nice as this car is in terms of condition, that alone doesn't determine value. There's just not a lot of interest in V-6 Cutlasses, and that works to lower the value.


Would be nice if his ad showed some photos of the engine compartment.

 

Unfortunately I don't think the color is going to do it any favors. I am sorry but that green is just ugly. And then you have the V6 thing. I think if you got $5,000 you would be doing good. Just my uneducated opinion.

 

Ah, I didn't see that this morning. I have a beeatch of a time navigating with the iPad. I noticed that the ad here still says 10K OBO and the on line ad says 7K. I know the ad says 37K miles and the car doesn't look beat up, but can't help wondering if there's documentation on the mileage. These cars were the old 5 digit odometer models and in CA it wouldn't be hard to put on 137K early in the cars life and let it sit for a long time. Anyhooo - that's all speculation on my part and I'm sure the seller will likely have credible proof of the 37K.

The real sad thing about this car is it's probably a nice DD. But IMO it has absolutely no visual appeal, and no desirability or rareness. Contrary to the sellers ad, the car has a vinyl interior - not leather, and the trim package is the most basic offered that year. 1. Cutlass Supreme Brougham, 2. Cutlass Calais, 3rd and lowest trim - Cutlass Supreme. Sort of like the f85 of the 1960's and early 70's - the entry level of this body style.

The buyer of this car will have to be someone who really loves Green.

It's been said many times over 'There's a butt for every seat', so with that I'll leave the seller to meet his buyer on this one. unsubscribed.

I wonder if it's the 231 Buick V6 or the Chevy 250 I6 under that hood. We are so used to saying "V6" today. People acted like the I6 was a crazy new design back in 2002 when the Evnoy/Trailblazer/Bravada came out.

1970's green is ugly, even though it's in good shape, I'd say $3500 maybe $4000

 

According to Setting the Pace, the only 6-cylinder engine offered was the 231 V-6. Plus, the ad says "V-6." While it may not be possible to determine the displacement of an engine just by looking at it, it's certainly possible to tell the difference between a V-configuration and I-configuration, even for a someone who doesn't know much about cars.

I'm guessing it's a V-6.
