1969 Cutlass S NOW $8,500 Hurry before winter!
I hate to do this, but here it is. This is my car. I have had it since 1999. The engine was rebuilt and bored .030 over the crank was turned .010 under. There was a 3 angle valve job and hardened seats added. A slightly hotter than stock cam was added as well. The transmission was rebuilt and a slight shift kit was added at the same time as the engine. Car has 145,xxx miles on it. I had the car repainted in '10 with all new emblems, door handles, door mirror, and new vinyl top. The interior needs work. It is mostly original and is showing its age. The car has never seen salt or winter. It was sold new at Rooster Bush in Hickory, NC. If you want more pictures let me know. I can take almost anything.

It is only advertised here and my local OCA chapter. I do not want a bunch of Craigslist idiots bothering me, plus I believe that this car needs to remain with an Oldsmobile enthusiast. Yes I reliaze that leaves a limited market, but that is what I want.

You can post the ad for your car on my site for free as well. Takes only a few minutes and gets blasted to only Oldsmobile fans.

You need to expand your advertising venue. The more eyes on it the better your chances to sell it. On strictly Olds sites your competing with better cars and or less expensive ones. On Craigslist it's just a car in your area. Are there people who search out particular makes, yes, but there also are those looking for an inexpensive old car period. Who cares who buys your car.

Here it is. As you suggested. I know 2 different prices. The lower price is for this forum only.

Keep posting ads and bumping/refreshing your Craigslsit ad. Remember, cars like ours require cash buyers and the economy isn't doing as well as they say. Even the military is cutting back. But I bet someone will buy the car, eventually. It looks like a really nice example. And I have that much in my 69. So $11,500 probably isn't really a bad deal.

That is a nice looking car. IMO, the more info you provide, and the more pics - the better it looks. Just be patient and expand your ads - the right buyer will come along.
Also IMO, your biggest competition is folk who have to sell quick for one reason or another - there have been really nice examples selling for what I consider ridiculously low prices.
Best of luck.

Thanks for the input guys. I really don't want to sell it and won't unless I absolutely have to. I would never be able to replace the memories and the bond it created between my best friend and I. Especially when you consider the cars are the feature car for the month of October in this years all Oldsmobile calendar. I received an email the other day from Craigslist and the guy wanted more pictures. I sent a response to clarify what exactly he wanted and haven't heard back. He must not be TOO interested.

Well I've decided to keep the car. I haven't had 1 person contact me so apparently it is worth more to me than to everyone else. That's ok I didn't want to sell it anyway. So now I'm going to spend some money on the interior and clean it up some. Thanks everyone for the opinions on the car.

I've seen plenty of good cars not sale. It seems as if it isn't a steal or a W31, they just don't move too quickly. Hold on to it for a while longer and sale it when the economy is a little bit better. And leave the for sale sign on it just incase the right person comes strolling by and sees it. You never know.
By the way, you have a very nice ride, I'd keep it.

Wise choice.. you would have regretted selling it after

Glad you were able to keep the car. The market right now is hard to tell... I am in the process of selling one of my cars and I am surprised at the lack of interest. If I sell it it will be for nowhere near what it is really worth. It's very frustrating.
#28
Never kidd yourself there was not alot of interest just because of a perceived limited response; take note of the number of hits this ad received here on CO compared to others. IMO, there is interest in any Oldsmobile regardless of trim level, engine size, number of doors, etc.

IMO it all boils down to which market you are selling in, geographic and demographic. Those with money have the ability to buy nice cars and those without only have the ability to buy within thier means, or just look. And there are a lot more "have nots" out there today than there were say, five or six years ago. I have tested the market with a couple of quality parts cars and a couple of nice cars. The parts cars sell quicker than the nice cars. IMO this is because they are cheaper and within the reach of those who cannot afford the nice cars. Another issue I have had is the fact that here in Alabama the economy doesn't really seem to be doing all that well. So I can make some really low offers on some really nice cars and I usually end up with the car. But I can't sell a nice car locally because, well, there aren't as many real buyers here. Oh, I get lots of looks and lots of questions, but it is mostly time spent talking, and listening to some really hypothetical offers, you know what I mean by hypothetical. A gentleman says to me, "what if I could come up with such and such amount, would you sell it to me then", but no cash offers. No commitments. And definately no handshakes. On the other hand, if I buy a cheap car and sell it cheap, it tends to go within a couple of weeks. People from far and wide start calling. And they make realistic offers. And by cheap, I mean $2800.00 or less. At 3K or more the calls slow down dramatically.
Now all of that changes with a car of real value. The Shelbys, the numbers matching 442 convertibles. Well, that's a different market all together.
Recent activity: I have sold three quality parts cars within the last nine months, all 1970, 71, 72 bucket seat cars. I don't touch bench seat cars. And I currently have a bucket seat car listed on Craigslist and here on the forum. My phone is ringing off the hook. On the other hand, I have two nice cars for sale now, with no potencial buyers in sight. So I guess I'll be holding on to them for awhile longer. Fortunately this is a hobby for me and I like driving these Cutlasses to and from work. People think I'm cool, which I know I'm not, it's just the car that makes me appear to be.
IMO
Thanks

Going back ON the Market!!!! New PRICE!!!!
I am going to put this back up for sale. I found a 1987 442 that I've wanted since 1997 when I wrecked my 1987 Cutlass. So who ever comes up with $9,000 first it is theirs.
Thanks,
Jon
Thanks,
Jon

No you are not way off your rocker now. I think 9k is a pretty good price especially with the newish paint and the rebuilt eng/trans. Its a tough market right now and with holidays coming up peoples focus is going to be towards that. If I had the means I'd work a deal because would make a great gift for my Dad's 60th b-day. You can never sell something when you need to or want something and need the cash from the sale. If I didn't have to buy an enclosed trailer for my move I probably would have a 3rd car right now. :-)

If I was in the market I would be seriously looking at your car 9000 w your description seems fair and the 69 model year is my favorite and gold is my color, but w 3 cars already and an early bronco or f series in my future I can't justify another car ( well I could but not at 9 k which I think is a reasonable price)

This is why I didn't want to list this on Craigslist.
GRRR!!!! I just had an offer of 5k cash. Really? I don't think so. Sorry. I'd like to see another '69 Cutlass in the same shape as mine listed that low, somehow I don't think it will happen. Oh well looks like I'll be keeping it until spring and do some interior freshening, and then re-list it in the spring at an even higher price.

While I can understand his viewpoint, there is no WAY I am driving all the way to Vegas for that kind of price. I'll probably just end up keeping it, freshing the interior and relisting at a higher price in the spring.

Not trying to be negative but a G body 442 is nice but the 69 Cutlass S is a thing of beauty.

I can see your point, but I grew up with G body's in fact that is what got me into Oldsmobiles. My Dad bought an '83 and a '87 Cutlass Supreme new in fact the '87 was mine for about a year when he bought a '96 Regal, but do to a person pulling out in front of me my '87 was totaled in '97 and I've wanted another one since. The only way I can afford one is to sell my '69. If I hadn't seen that '87 442 survivor on this site for $8000 I wouldn't have considered it, but now I want a G body again. I'll probably regret selling my car IF anyone shows REAL interest, but deep in my heart I'm a G body Olds guy. I think.
