This car runs and drives fantastic.
Nice driver.
Solid floors frame and trunk could use new paint.
added 7/17/12 the car has AC will need compressor. the rest is there.

Do you mean the deck wing and 442 badging on the glovebox? I saw that too but those are really easy fixes if that's an issue. The rest of the car looks really sharp, and the price is a decent offering IMHO. Being represented as a 72 442 with a 70 455. That's pretty honest advertising.

I think you're looking at the reflective side of the mirror. It looks proper to me. Not showing gray rubber surround anywhere I can see, and the front shots of the car don't have a silver mirror in them that you'd usually see if it was chrome.
This car even has SSIII wheels with bolt on caps. Sure it has some wear and tear in places and may not be 'just perfect', but it's not advertised or priced like a trailer queen either. I still think that's a great deal from what I see.

Ur probably right just a glare. the wing wouldn't stop me i put a wing on my 72 442.

Steve, the deck wing was not offered as an option (factory or dealer installed) for 72. It was discontinued back in 71. Now if you're asking if a dealer could install a deck wing, sure I think they could. I have yet to see a 72 Cutlass with a factory installed or dealer installed (on delivery doc) option. But it wouldn't be on the invoice as a dealer installed option because it wasn't an option for that year. It would likely have just gone through the accounting office as an invoice from the body shop based on a customer request.
So I guess, you must be smokin crack or sumpin.....
FWIW I think the deck spoiler looks really nice. It was on the 70 and 71. Can hardly think of a good reason it wouldn't look as bad a@@ on a 72.
I read somewhere on this site (it was a tech thread somewhere) that in order for the spoiler to be effective the car had to be maintaining a speed of around 117mph. Yup, I do that all the time...... Easier just to lower the suspension and add ground effects maybe

Steve, the W35 deck lid spoiler was not offered as a factory option on any of the Cutlass Supremes - coupes or verts. *source - Oldsmobile SPECS. It could be ordered on the f85, cutlass S and came std on the Rallye 350 in 70 as part of the W45 package, only available as a factory option through part of 71 on the Cutlass 3277 coupe and Cutlass S 3387. I've seen it on a lot of Supremes too, but that was likely a choice made by the owner to add after the fact. If it ever had one on the dealer invoice added as a factory special order, that's something Scot would prolly love to add to his special order thread.

I'm just a Supreme guy, I don't know much about the factory 442 options and such...of course I'm mostly into engines and performance rather than "correctness" and such. But it is interesting to me, I love history, especially Oldsmobile history. Thanks for sharing!

I know your passion is for mechanical. Really enjoyed the build thread you posted and your track videos. I'm not worried about the correctness as much as most people think. I'm seriously thinking of putting a deck wing on my car just cause I love the look.
I've always admired the CS too. When I was going to college I had my first 72 Cutlass S (matador red). One of my classmates (Rod Carty) drove his mom's 72 CS. It was matador red with white vinyl top and white interior - buckets - the whole nine yards. They were both really sharp looking cars and we used to park together in the parkade.

Your car would look SICK with a deck wing. Wait until someone has one for sale on this site. I've seen em' go for pretty cheap.

Oh trust me Tony. I'm ahead of the game. In my sickness induced state I bought a wing 3 years ago for a lot less than they go for today. It's a repro but I don't care. I've though about drilling the base and installing the 3rd stud like the factory one. I've collected lots of details about he install and have some pics from the web showing the mounting from inside the deck lid. Trust me bud, I love the look. You gonna do one too?

I had the vin decoded in another thread.
This car was originally a code 65 Flame orange with a white bench seat int with a 350 4speed hence the reflection from the headliner in the mirror.

Actually the mirror pod and the rubber gasket that holds the mirror should all be black. GM changed it for 1972 (all models/brands) from chrome to black to reduce the effects of reflected glare to oncoming vehicles. I wouldn't take off the spoiler just to make it 'proper'. I think the spoiler looks killer on that car.

Work's been crazy these days, got a new boss so not sure how he feels about me cruising CO all day....
Suspension/streering is almost done! I've got the passenger side completely rebuilt and installed. Steering linkage completely removed and new one going in tonight. I think my car might be drivable by the weekend!!!

Almost? There's always something that comes up isn't there? I know the feeling. Be curious to see what happens when you get your new steering linkage in. My experience wasn't all that great with how the wheels "didn't" line up. Suggestion? Instead of measuring the center of the grease fittings to determine length of inner/outer tie rod - count the number of threads you can see on the old ones and set the new ones for that same number.

Wow. I still can't believe you haven't sold that car for that low price yet! Looks like a very nice driver/cruise night car. If I could sell my '72 cutlass, I would love to buy that. Also, if anyone interested would like me to take a look at it for them, I'd love to help.
