1973 Cutlass V-code (not mine)

For those of you who might be interested, there's a 1973 Cutlass on eBay right now that came with the 455 and Muncie 4-speed transmission. The car is missing it's original motor but it looks to be complete, including the transmission. The VIN shows it to be a V-code car. Was this one of 95 built? It wouldn't take much to drop in a built 455 and be cruising around in this thing. That would be a fun car. I think the buy it now price is $7900.
I would consider it myself if it wasn't for 3 reasons: (1) I don't have the space for it, (2) I don't have the money for it, and (3) The wife would kick me out and make me live in it.

The T-tops are not factory, since they didn't exist in 1973. I'd pay close attention to rust from leaks.

I agree with Joe. Rust could be a big problem especially considering the car is in New Jersey. He also says the 455 is from a 75 Buick. No way I would buy this one without seeing it. It could be a fun car and if it is solid, the price seems reasonable.

What year were they available from the factory? 1975 or 1976?
From the engine compartment photos I see that the car had aftermarket headers and a basic heater box (no A/C). Was the standard gear ratio 3.23s? I think 3.42s were available for cars without A/C.

I love the embossing of the design in the seats! A friend of mine had a 1973 Cutlass in high school with white bucket seats with this design in the vinyl material. Love it.

Hurst Hatches (T Tops) were first available in 1975. Yes, they do leak.

The Hurst Hatches were first released on the 1975 Hurst/Olds. Both factory and aftermarket kits were available. This one is obviously an aftermarket installation. The headers are for the Buick engine. Yes, standard rear axle with M20 was 3.23, with the 3.42s available on non-A/C cars.

Ironically, I happen to have a 455 with a 1973 VIN derivative, KA heads, and an MT crank sitting on a stand in my shop...

The listing is no longer there. Looks like the car sold last night. Hopefully the new owner will get it up and running and enjoy it. Nothing like rowing through the gears of manual transmission car.

Agreed on all points above on those tops, the new owner better check those A-Pillars!. In my 79 H/O I had at the time, I had to spend $1800 (in 2005) to get my RH side repaired from rust caused by the Hurst Hatch leak(s), it almost caused the car to be trashed the damage was so extensive. But Phil, you know the rest of the story on that one.

Also, point well taken on the requirements for taking on another car, it with have to come equipped with a Divorce Attorney.
