Really nice 65 442 3spd UNRESTORED - Ebay - Not mine

One of the nicest cars I have seen in a while. With window sticker! (not mine - ebay)

1965 Oldsmobile 442 Holiday Coupe

purchased this rare factory 3 speed 1965 442 Post Coupe from the original owner who never drove it in bad weather and kept it covered & garaged. It is ORIGINAL 47,793 miles. It is ORIGINAL factory lacquer paint. Never damaged. It is 100% rust free including trunk pan. The aluminum trim is exceptional. The stainless is exceptional. The chrome is excellent. The undercarriage is immaculate. Totally UNRESTORED 442. Everything works as it should. The interior is like new. Perfect steering wheel & dash pad. Carpet has factory mats and NO wear. The seats are perfect. All original glass. Engine has never been painted or taken apart. BOTH sets of original factory keys with numbers intact. Runs & performs like new. I'm a mechanic and serviced EVERYTHING. New radial tires. All fluids & filters, belt & hoses. This car is like finding a one year old original UNRESTORED 65-442. Yes, the drivetrain is all original including carb, alternator, voltage regulator, starter and 3:55 positraction rear differential. These factory 3-speed cars came with a ford top loader transmission which is super strong. No dissapointments. Turn key car.

My good friend had a black one, 4 speed with bucket seats back around 1972! That one would pull like heck. It was B-A-D! If my wife would get a second job, I'd own this one! LOL!!

For those interested, here is the trim tag. I'm sure someone here can decipher it.

This is the second original 65 442 I've seen with no outside mirror - apparently an option!

Almost 400 people watching it on eBay, that’s a number I’ve not seen in 20 years for an item. Quite a following for a very cool car.

I’ve been watching this one since it was listed.
Gorgeous Sports Coupe with bucket seat delete and bench seat added.
Such a cool car.

People will argue whether the rarer Fomoco 3 speed top loader is an attribute or detriment…
Either way it’s cool.

This is a sports coupe with club coupe cred.
Hope the owner gets what they deserve.

I thought that when the 400 replaced the 330 that it would have had a Quadrajet carburetor. Learn something new everyday!

65 is a different year. It's a different 400, different heads, and different carb and intake than 67. I think all the changes happened in 66, except the heads. Also, the 66 quadrajet is one year only specific, lots of things got changed going into 67.

More simply put, 1966 was the model year when Quadrajets were on all V-8's. 1965 model year was the last year for the Rochester 4GC.

1965 BBOs use a one-year-only square-bore intake.

I was watching it and think it’s an awesome example. I believe it sold for a little more than the max eBay bid about a year ago. I don’t know why, but I just didn’t want it - Not sure what I’d do with it.

It’s a shame…but also a realization of what these cars are actually worth…without all of the Barrett Jackson “look at me and the size of my d***”, hype.

it’s an honest, legit, original 58yo “muscle car/super car” and it dint pull. 40k.
Sad, but reveals what they are actually worth.

The restored cost on a mint 65 442 is easily 45k if done correctly.

Owner should have just listed it this way to begin with. Maybe this was his technique to see what kind of money the car would bring.

Gone for now until we see it at a dealer or Mecum.

The 65 engine used the same block, same bore and stroke as the 66 and 67. The heads would have either been A or B heads. The 67-69 used the C heads. The Quadrajet was used starting in 66. Each engine used a different carburetor part # depending on the emissions and transmission used.

The 1965 block was a B block. 1966-67 block was an E block. They were different and the most notable difference was the valve lifter angle. 1965 was 45 degrees and 1966-67 was "39" degrees. The block casting numbers were also different.

1965-67 400 crank is forging number 384722 with 3.980" stroke.
1965 heads are casting number 383821 A and used 3/8" rocker studs and unique 3-piece rocker bridges
1966 heads are casting number 389395 B and used 5/16" rocker bolts and die cast rocker bridges
1967 heads are casting number 394548 C and used 5/16" rocker bolts and die cast rocker bridges
