That looks really nice. Relatively low-option post car in a great color combination. You should do well on this one.

Is that the original '68 400 engine? The complete air cleaner should have been Red unless it is a 2-barrel carburetor. The thermostat housing bypass is a later style, too. Not nit-picking at all. Just curious.

And an A/C engine in a non-A/C car (assuming the oil filler hasn't been changed)

All 68 442's received a fan shroud except W30's and W31's so that is correct. Even the non heavy duty cooling cars (which this appears to be based on the radiator top plate), got a shroud.

Maybe someone just liked the curved oil fill tube. If you have the Protect-O-Plate you could check the engine unit number on it against the number on the oil fill tube. It would be an interesting mystery if they matched

Honestly. I was always under the impression all 1968 Olds engines in a F-85/Cutlass/442 had the curved oil fill tube and not just the A/C cars. The bottom line is, the engine numbers match and it is a really nice car. Most all of the people who like this body style will not be turned off by incorrect air cleaner colors, etc. It's a cool car.

I completely agree. I'm always interested in researching and discovering new things about 68's. Like I said, it would be cool to discover the engine unit number of this tube matched the PoP. Olds seemed to be pretty regimented about things like this and they seemed to make very few mistakes, especially on Lansing cars (I don't know if this was one). That being said the assertion that the bent oil fill tube was only used on A/C cars comes from this:

Yes, the engine unit number on the PoP would match the number on the tube. The two letter engine code would precede engine unit number on the PoP. (example from the PIM is below)

I'm betting that oil fill tube was in the engine when it left the factory.

If you're willing to put your money down, that's good enough for me, but just curious -- based on what?

If that's the original engine in the car,it's just a guess.

This is some great stuff, drawings and all. Except, debating on the oil fill tube originality. Since the numbers on the engine pad below the head on the Driver's side match the VIN, there is no reason to be concerned about the oil fill tube or the T-stat housing for that matter. The car is about 54 years old and those items are easily changed in five decades.

What a stupid pointless thing to be concerned about on this car. Obviously a very nice car. Block matches etc. Oh wait let's contest the dipstick tube...🤯

Is it my imagination or does the air cleaner look like it's off a Pontiac ...?

As I previously posted I'm betting the car left the factory with that oil fill tube. If this indeed was a T.P. Cruiser I;m right again.

Most people in the computer age have image resizer programs to avoid having trouble sending photos. They are cheap, like free.

How did I know you finally got the picture to upload? I was only commenting on your comment saying it was too big to upload. Make up your mind.

I am sure I mentioned it having a 2-barrel carburetor. I even stated at home it may be a Turnpike Cruiser because of the black air cleaner. Should have a lightweight rear gear as well. That's pretty cool.
Good job figuring it out, Andy and Ally Olds68.

Thank you.. Once you put a four barrel on ,its still a 442 with highway cruisers. It’s such a nice car for somebody’s not want to spend 40 to 50 grand it’s a great car. I am not worried about selling it only takes one person with the checkbook, and if nobody shows up I’ll just keep it

you did me mention it may have @ two bbl, however it has a 4 bbl, so it threw us all..i knew the air cleaner was a whoopsy deal for sure..hey it took us all to brainstorm now we know curved oil tubes are NOT just AC cars.. interesting the assembly manual said nothing of this little anomaly

That all makes sense. I would guess it has a 2.56 or 2.78 rear gear to go with that Turnpike Cruiser option. It will be a fun ride for someone.

Assuming you are back from vacation. Have you placed this car for sale on the open market yet, Andy?

I just got back, have secured a proper 68 air cleaner, in the middle of stripping it and painting it as it had some surface rust.. my brother cleaned up the trunk and spot painted that area and cleaned up the engine bay. It turned out nice, not going to half *** repaint it as people need to know the car is not a polished up engine bay trying to sell. Its a very solid very nice basically original 442, not 100% as there are a few minor changes in 54 years..We are waiting on a antenna bezel nut, the air cleaner tin top decal and a couple small things.hopefully they are in stock and get shipped asap. Then I will redo the ads and post. Was trying to find the correct interior blue to repaint the arm rest bases but no luck on that so far.

This is a cool car, but to add to the unexplained phenomena, all 1968 442 Sport Coupes came standard with the RPO B90 chrome trim around the side windows. Likely it was removed at some prior repaint (or possibly painted over), but it's another question.

Thank you Joe, the trim is on the car it was painted over. I thought about trying to remove the paint but I was afraid I might mess up the trim underneath. So I’ll leave that job to whoever the new owner may be. It’s a very straight, rest free example of a 442 for sure

Great looking car! With some SS1 or SS2/3 that would really make it pop.

As stated asking 30k but will take solid reasonable offers..very solid, nice running very original car.

Don't make it too nice, otherwise you'll want to keep it.
