69 442 4Spd Not Mine
😳 Holy cow! Am I just totally out of touch with reality? $43,000 for an average driver? The 4 speed is nice, but that doesn't double the value. What am I missing here guys. Have things really gone this far into absurdity?😖
I understand that. For me, if someone is so high that I would be offering $20,000 less than their asking, I don't bother. Would someone really entertain an offer like that and better yet, would someone make an offer like that? The business has left me behind. It's definitely no longer a hobby that's for sure.
I understand you. It's a double edge sword for sure. A trip to any car lot today is certainly an eye-opener. A while back I looked at a used 6-year old vehicle; it was priced for more than the original sticker price with new, plus it had 50,000 miles on!
I'm not advocating for this particular 69 442, but it sure has much going for it, good documentation, and the exterior and interior look to be original, plus that 4-speed too--sweet.

I agree. It definitely piqued my interest as well. It has been painted at least once because the docs mentioned hood stripes. Interesting that they make no mention of it being a numbers car. Kind of indicates that it's not. I'd be interested if he was asking some where in the ball playing range, but like I said, I won't even entertain making an offer that far off of his asking. Oh well.
Nice solid car, some good options. A little disturbing that there are no pictures of the undercarriage; the underhood shots may explain that omission. From what I can see, it would only take a good forensic clean and detail to make the car worth close to that asking price in today's (admittedly inflated) market.
A good inspection certainly is in order for any interested person being its located in the NE. By that, I mean being prone to rust.
We see too many ragged out ones; when a nice one surfaces (by what we see in the pictures) we are sort of in shock

Well, that's unfortunate then because that means cars have priced themselves totally out of my reach. It would take $40,000 to restore that car. To me, it's a $50,000 car very nicely restored. Not $80,000.
I've contacted this seller, as I'm interested in the car. I do have many questions, which I presented in my email to the seller, so we'll see what I can find out about it, especially as to whether there is much rust or not, and why the hood stripe is missing, among others. Does anyone care to chime in with there opinion on what this car is worth if we assume that the rust situation isn't out of control and there are no other major negatives? I know, hard to know without further info on the car, but if you want to take a stab at it, that would be great. Thanks.
Unfortunate but true, although I think you're overstating the case -- I think a few weekends spent giving the car liberal applications of elbow grease would pay dividends and cost nowhere near $40K.
This is a 2 owner well documented original 442 with 4 speed and factory buckets and console working air conditioning power front disc brakes posi rear am fm stereo and much more . Stock & original car down to lock out reverse , key buzzer , interior lights , factory rally pac dash with tachometer , and best of all Original window sticker , bill of sale , Pro-tecto plate and everything since new including original keys . Solid driver , real honest car with only 73k miles .
If the paint will buff out and the car is solid, I think it is worth well into the high $30K's possibly more. You guys might be missing the point though. You can see at least one other "classic" (later 70's Camaro) in what looks like a decent neighborhood with a small driveway. seller may have been given an ultimatum that one of the cars needs to go. So now technically "trying" to sell it as it is listed for sale on craigslist. To me, this would also explain the lack of effort on the return email. I can see not wanting to bother with a buyer hundreds of miles away for a sub $5K car, but if I was legitimately trying to sell a $40K plus car I would take a long distance buyer a little more seriously.
43 Grand. I would much rather have a Stage One for that kind of Jack.
Did you read the rest of my post? I was saying that the seller may be "trying" to sell it to appease a better half. "Sorry honey I tried to sell it, but nobody wants to pay what it is worth" In other words, it may not really be for sale.
A lot of people don't consider that having a window sticker on a car that has had things added may tell more than they want. The gauges, disc brakes, and sport wheels have been added, like seen by Randy and also not there in the trunk. Cars came with a 5th SS wheel if so equipped.
They are asking restored money for an unrestored car.
No worries. I did not intend to come across wrong either. It is just had to read peoples "tone" sometimes. Given the fact that the seller had no interest in answering email questions leads me to belive the seller is not too motivated to sell.
I love this car 69, ss1s, 4 speed, console, buckets rally gauges!
is itworth the ask? Not to me but maybe somebody else.
there are a couple 69s (auto) on cl near me, both in the mid 30s one has been for sale since last year.
how old are those dunlops? I had a set on my car back in the 80s…..

I haven't seen those Dunlop G/T Qualifier tires in years, maybe over 15 years? I grew up in Merrick, it's about an hour away from me. If anybody's seriously interested in better pictures or more information on the car I can make the trip.
My 69 Cutlass had those Dunlop Qualifier's, were date coded to 1996 when I bought my car in 2019 - they had 2750 miles on them and looked really good / nearly new - I easily sold the 4 tires with SSIII's 14x6 for $200 - now have 15 x 7's ...

If you regularly search Long Island and other nearby CL ads for muscle cars you will easily identify the repeated words, writing style and towns they list under. Probably 30+ cars some years.
Sometimes easier to find their cars by searching CL for their usual selling phrases instead of particular cars.

Research do your research.
Act like it is some owner that has had it just sitting. I LOVE the dealers taking advantage. That is so good for the Oldsmobile world. The people in the know that let it slide are just as bad.
I get called out for not supporting the BS world. There you go. Only 43 GRAND
