1970 Pace Car y74

I bought this car 25+ years ago and drove it home. I am the 3rd owner, the second owner was the next door neighbor to the original owner. The original owner was in college and his girl friend was the home coming queen and was driven around the track in a 1970 Oldsmobile Pace Car. The original owner did a national search for a 1970 Olds Pace car and found one in Long Island which he bought. He proposed to his future bride in the car and owned it for about 25 years. They sold it to their next door neighbor a young man who I bought it from. He had no idea what it was, nor did I, but I bought it and drove it home as a happy camper. Later learned it was a Y74 Cutlass Pace Car convertible, complete with the Protecto Plate. I confirmed that the next door neighbor was indeed the original owner. So why am I writing this, well it seems I have out lived my enthusiasm for restoring these cars. I guess I am a better collector then a restorer.. So I have decided to sell my complete and original Pace car (except a re-paint due to vandalism). Oh, buy the way I have many NOS parts which can be purchased separately, but are not included in the sale of the Pace car, but are available to the purchaser, first right of refusal.

Why, after 25+ years am I selling? Well, I have decided to sell this project and parts and purchase a finished Pace car that is ready to drive and enjoy. I truly love the Pace car and I'm not going to be without and I figure purchasing a completed one is easier then finding a Rally Red, black interior, bucket seat 4 speed w/ console W31 which I also have and going to sell, but need to find a nice completed example.

Twenty five years ago I was told at a Local Olds club meeting that my car was worth $10,000 because of the completeness and documentation. What do you think? I'm looking for leads on complete Pace cars and Rally Red W31 with a build sheet. Should I sell these cars here, or eBay or Carlisle, since 442.com is gone? Looking for help.

Thanks, in advance
Bob

Hi Bob -

Sounds like two great cars to have as projects. This is a good site to sell and get the word out, and I would also explore the various Olds-specfic pages on Facebook, including the one dedicated for Ram Rod/W-31 owners. A lot of us here on CO are also on these pages, as well as a whole lot of other people. You will get the typical nuts and amateur opinions like anywhere else these days, but there is a lot of great knowledge out there too.

I'd be interested in knowing more about your W-31. What part of MD are you in?

Terry

Anyone interested in the Pace Cars please call or text 301-706-8852. I am finishing the remodel of my house and the stuff must go, or go to storage for another dozen years.

An ad with no photos can prove to be a hard sell. Plenty of people will just pass with no photos. I would post all the pictures you can. Really helps in selling anything.

Did you sell your W-31?

Wow - I remember talking with you about the pace car about 11 years ago. Had I known about W31's at the time I would have been all over it. Good luck with the sale. If I remember right from the pictures you sent it looked like an easy project
