I assume that's the same car we discussed a couple of years ago in this thread. At least they fixed the location of the grille emblem.

Appears to be the same car. Wood steering wheel was added which I don’t recall was available as an option. Also, is the console the correct color? Seems to me it should be black.

The "wood" wheel was RPO N34, a $31.60 option for 1968.

Of course, what else was added to the car over the course of several restorations...

I don’t believe it’s the same car . The other white convertible that was discussed had other factory paperwork including the “Youngmobiles” card and Other paperwork too.

In regards to this car here, look at the Protecto Plate, in 68 they stamped the 2 letter trans code into the protecto plate. The 2 letter code on this one is OH 1405. As we know the trans code for a factory W30 should be OW — so NO way this is a factory W30 car!!!

Cheers,
Sam

The other car had PHOTOCOPIES of alleged factory paperwork. How many white 1968 W-30 stripe delete cars do you think exist at this level of restoration? In any case, judge for yourself. The first photo in each pair is the FastLane car, the second is the Mecum car from two years ago. Note in particular the underhood shots, where the yellow stripe on the windshield washer hose is in EXACTLY the same orientation on both (though I don't know where the pie pan went to). Also note EXACTLY the same positioning and bends in the wiper motor wires.

specifically regarding '68's - the 442 emblem in the grille and on the front fenders - what is the standard with numerals - with or without the black paint insert? Was the insert color a choice? Or was it dependent on the body color choice?

They all came from the factory painted black. There was no option. The paint gets worn off or removed if replated. I will say that one of the coolest 68s I ever saw was an all black one in Boston in the late 1970s that had the emblem inserts painted red-orange-yellow. What a striking car.

In 1968, the OH trans code was a TH400 used behind the 2bbl 400 in the Turnpike Cruiser package....

It is the same car. Prior owner is a member here. It was sold at Russo and Steele in Arizona and purchased by Fast Lane.

I just noticed that they added the 8-track in addition to the three spoke wheel since the Mecum photos were taken. Again, how much else was added? Oh, wait... we already know that.

FYI, if you go back and look at the thread from two years ago, the Youngmobiles card actually has the codes for the keys on it. Not terribly smart.

Yes I sold it way to cheap but it was time to let it go. Its a real w-30 that never got its day in my opinion. I was short hammer at the auction. Was not happy with auction And I still have not received a check. I had 55.000 invested it was a break even.

It is the same car!! - went back and looked at the VIN and cowl tag pictures. WTF!!!

I have pictures from a couple years ago that presented documentation for the car that a factory W30 car! - "YoungMobiles"card, etc..... the docs clearly showed W30 and the VIN to the car listed for sale above.

NOW, the car is listed for sale with a POP that states that the car came from the factory a OH trans - 2bbl 400 - ????

So what the F???????

Who is lying??? Hmmm..............

How is it a real W30 ??
It shows a OH coded trans on the POP in the current for sale ad for the car $99,995.

Was the paperwork posted a few years ago by you, W30hurstolds original?

Look in this thread ...... https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...nvertible.html????

Also, in the thread above - the previously posted "Youngmobiles" card has the DEALER code 11 -275. This same 11-275 appears on the POP in the current for sale ad. The POP also clearly shows the OH trans for the car - NOT OW for the W30 auto trans. ???

Also, in the same thread above you posted a picture of the 8254 carb - thats clearly a restamped 8254 carb.

Please Help me understand this car... scratching my head......hmmmmm.

Sam

This would explain the "stripe delete" scenario, if it was just a 442 with the turnpike cruiser option.

I don't recall ever seeing a copy of the POP shown with this car prior? What engine code does it show?

Also, check this out..........

2 letter engine code is "QI" on the current POP - NOT QU or QT for W30 in '68.

TL rear code "3:42 open" - which is possible on a W30 in '68.

It would be very interesting to see if the engine # 8385703 appears on the oil filler tube if its original as it appears on the current POP.

Maybe the engine code is stamped incorrectly on the current POP? I have seen that before. It would also be interesting to see the trans tag on - does it say OW xxxx or OH 1405 as stated on the current POP.

Just trying to understand......hmmmmm

Cheers,
Sam

The trans had the ow stamped and the tag was on it. Everything was date code correct and number match. It was a stripe less car with non posi hup cap car.I stand by the car 100 percent. I also have a letter from the original sells person that ordered the car new.

Another interesting detail, and yall please correct me if I'm wrong, the spare tire should NOT have the cardboard cover and I don't see the clips nor the lug wrench where they should live for a car delivered with SS2s. This detail is for a standard steel wheel car with hubcaps.

edit: I went back to the orig thread and it did state hubcaps. So the spare set up is correct for a steel wheel car and not an SS1 or 2 factory car.

before you start down that road you better have proof that this car is a fake. I have nothing to gain but I do have my integrity and twenty five years in collecting and restoring w-30. So you are telling me that some of the top judges thought this car was the real deal. You are also saying the that original owner daughters and sister sold me a fake w-30. I am happy to talk with anyone about this car. I have nothing to hide but a very rare W-30

Is this the vehicle?
https://russoandsteele.com/vehicle-d...red&showpage=1

I have not bought or sold via an auction so am not familiar with the transfer process. I had not considered the lag where the seller could wait 3+ weeks (or months??) for their payment......
