trying to figure out a starting point

I have a 72 cutlass convertible that I paid $5600 for 12 years ago. It has some rust, needs a new paintjob and a torn top in a few places. The interior is good. It spent 9 years in the garage and this last spring I dumped $4700 into it to get it running again.

I am trying to figure out if I were to sell it what would be its value.......I need to figure it out quick and haven't been able to get my hands on a old car price guide.

Also can't figure out how to get a pic of it on here. Any help would be appreciated

**Actually I just added a pic of the car to an album in my profile, if you can look at it there.

Thanks

It does run well. The a/c does not work. The interior is in great condition. It has rust above both rear wheels and some minor rust on bottom of each door. Also missing some of the emblems. Could use some new trim around the windshield. The tires are in excellent condition.

It is liscensed and insured.

Hope that helps

What have you done to the drivetrain, engine, tans, rear? Does it smoke or run hot? Is the front end rebuilt? Body bushings? Brakes? Radiator? Suspension?

Is there any rot in the floors, trunk, etc?

Besides the A/C does everything else work? Does the top function properly?

The engine has been rebuilt. Transmission and rear have not. It does not smoke or run hot. It has a new radiator and carbuerator(sp?). The motor on the top needs to be replaced. No rot on the floors or in trunk.

Brakes are new, not sure on the bushings or suspension.

Looks/sounds like a solid project, but I suspect you will be disappointed if you wish to get out of it what you already have in.
Good luck with the sale, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would enjoy more pics.
BTW - where are you located?

Unfortunately pic doesn't show that much. What is the stats on it? 350 2bbl/4bbl? dual exhaust? buckets/console? rear sway bar?
Off the top of my head I'd say $5K for adrivable project. You should get it up in the air & see what lies beneath. The rust on the quarters could be a sign of bigger problems. If it has rust on the floors or frame you are looking at a bigger issue.

Nice ones seem to be selling for mid to upper teens. Rust repair, paint and a top are going to be an easy 10-12K and thats finding a deal. How bad the rust really is will make a big difference on what its worth. If the rust is not to bad it might not hurt you but I need to see good pictures before I will give an opinion.
Post your location. Someone local might be able to help you pedal it.

I'd say $6-7 based on your description. As gearheads mentioned it needs the expensive stuff done!

that is an old car that will only cost money to keep. if finances are not a problem keep it, if $ are an issue sell it for 5-7k as indicated above and find a decent 3-4k car for junior and invest the rest for jrs college fund

According to the Old Cars Price Guide, a '72 Cutlass Supreme convertible in #4 condition (runs and drives but needs full restoration) is worth about $4800. In #3 condition ("car show" but not showroom), the value is about $11,000. That's a wide range, and your car surely falls somewhere in between.

I think oldcutlass's guesstimate of $6,000 to $7,000 is probably pretty good.

Looks like it needs 1/4's to be fixed right and I would bet close inspection would need floor and or trunk work too. How hard was it wrecked? Frame repair involved or just sheet metal? I'll say it again post your general area and I bet we can find you some help. On what little I know and can see 3500ish is going to be the ballpark.

With all the additional info you provided, you might see $3-4k. Good luck with what ever direction you take.
