Nice. I saw one of these for sale at Carlisle a few years ago. Probably should have bought it.

One of my brothers had a V8 Corvair when we were kids. It was a fun car. This looks to have been done very nicely.

1965 Big Block Corvair 455 Olds - $19,000 (Sierra Vista)1965 Torvair I purchased the car from David Wenzslick., a long term Torvair builder and owner, about 4 years ago. It has been in Arizona its entire life and is 100 rust free with under 75000 original miles. Upgrades / Rebuilds:Engine – I did not rebuild the engine as I was told it was rebuilt a few thousand miles ago – it runs great with no signs of age so I feel the build was done. Removed and detailed. Transmisson – complete rebuild with a new torque converter, trans cooling and all steel lines. Detailed. Cooling System – All new, water pump, accessory marine pump, aluminum radiator, dual cooling fans, full steel piping, inline filter, hoses, belts, thermostat, etc. Burping vales throughout to help with eliminating the air pockets. Radiator is encapsulated within a steel structure to allow air in through the custom front fresh air inlet and force it down out the bottom of the frunk, to prevent radiator heat from entering cabin. Lots of time spent on cooling system to assure it stayed cool in AZ. Fuel system – Fast fuel injection with matching pump and engine monitor. Installed return line in sending unit so not to cut the original tank. Exhaust – factory manifolds with new dual exhaust – 2.5 inch Suspension – all front end is rebuilt. New control arm bushings, idler arm, pitman bushing, ball joints, and strut bushings. 275.00 four-wheel alignment that I assisted with. Car accelerates and stops straight – no pulling. Brakes – New front disc brakes, lines, pads, rotors, mounts, etc., dual master cylinder, rear brakes with shoes, cylinders, resurface drums, lines, etc. Wheels and tire – less than 1000 miles. New interior – carpet, seats, dash pad, working original AM radio, all original gauges with a Tach. Installed in original clock hole. Full dyna-mat under the carpet, on the divider to the ending, on the bottom of the rear deck, and under the floorboard within the center channel where the cooling lines are routed. Full metal floorboard modifications to match center console and cooling lines. I even had full custom floor mats with embroidery – cost 280.00. Paint – full paint and even though I did not change the color I still had it jambed in the doors , frunk, and engine cover to make sure it all matched. Less than a year old. Area under frunk is coated with a durable bed liner type material. Glass – New Windshield - all the rest is good but some of the side glass has scratches – windows are not expensive but I usually wind them all down and pull the rear window when I am out cruising. Electric – New alternator belts, harnesses, lights, etc. All of the new items such as cooling fans, marine pump, EFI, etc. are all protected by circuit breakers and wired outside of the factory harnesses. I do not like to tape together wires that could get warm while under load so that is why I left the junction and breakers open in the rear. Even though the car was not built to just show. It attracts more attention than you can believe. Fun to drive, and simply a good-looking GM that you will never see another. It is NOT perfect, but I have not covered anything up. It does leak a bit of trans fluid if not driven. But you could get in it and drive it home. Hope this helps and thanks for the inquiry. Call or text with any other questions or comments. If I missed something it was an upgrade, not a problem. I spent hundreds of hours on the build and had a great time doing it.

Are "Torvairs" a thing?
Meaning, have many people built them?
Sounds seriously cool...and scary.

There are several in the Corvair club. One is a Rampside pickup. A big Corvair mechanic built one in the 70s, and had to widen the rear fenders quite a bit, he called it the Corv-Eight. Incredible car. Lots of others with Chevy engines, a few with Olds/Buick 215 engines.

I like it, and it's reasonably priced for what it is.

They actually handle and drive very well. Great balance on the car. Sits low. Super fun great handling car when done right. Personally I would spend this price and save the extra 120k over that very over priced blue "original blue w car" priced at 140k.. This car looks to have been done by a quality builder that is familiar with these cars.

What would the weight distribution be? I know it's a mid-engine rather than a rear-engine, but that 455 alone does weigh 400 lb. more than the Corvair engine.

Cool thing with a Corvair was that it was built as a rear engine car. Putting a larger engine more in the center? Perfect call. My brothers car was small block Chevy. Super hot interior. It was a wicked fast on the ground car. People want 40 k for junk. What is s 20?

I'd probably go with the Chevy too. 100 lb. less than BBO. But yeah, hot. Only drive it with the windows down.

I wonder if you can still get a Crown kit?
