Yeah, the collector is a Mopar guy who snapped up a few Oldses. He still has another 4-speed rag.

The stripes were painted incorrectly, though - car should look like Sam's car:

You're saying the stripes should be like the hardtop in your picture?

Yep.

This isn't the first blue-striped car with the incorrect color, but I know at least one case where it was done by choice; I wouldn't be surprised if there were more done like that for the same reason, as the correct blue seems to be a love/hate affair for some.

I don't think it really detracts from the value of the car for sale, FWIW.

The first thing I thought when I read the ad was this guy must be a Chrysler person. Because he said the car has its "certi-card."

I'm curious since I've worked on two different "W" cars with similar stripe color to the car being sold (both original btw) and one 442 with the pinstripes the same color. If there's a reason that it would be called "incorrect". ~BOB

That's cool. I have seen quite a few 1970 cars that don't agree with that chart. I just consider them "special" instead of "incorrect". Cheers! ~BOB

That may be so, but the chart's the one that's correct - even the factory mix is included in the paint chip chart.

I wish people would take more time writing a good ad and linking a ton pictures of a car. A good thought put ad goes a long way, especially with a car like this.

Ahhh, color, I couldn't get past the layout. Maybe it's an optical illusion.

So even though you could order just about any color you wanted for the body (even non-Olds colors), you couldn't order off-the-menu for the stripes?

Seems strange.

Oh well.

I'd be surprised if there was a provision for custom-ordered stripes on the order sheet.

I remember seeing this car unveiled at Bowling Green then for sale at MCACN this year. It's beautiful. Ad says less than 5 miles since Bowling Green, I could never have that level of self control...

In the case of the convert the stripe color was changed by choice.

Saw this car at the MCACN show and it's stunning! The dark blue stripe still looks great, but like Deigo pointed out it's a bit darker than stripe code C.

On this car the stripes are on top of the Azure Blue body color. In that regard, they could be more easily "corrected" if someone wanted that change made. Yes, still looked great at MCACN.

Judging by the color, equipment, and the location, I'd say it's his car.

Looks like it has one of the world famous "Patton gas tanks pads" on it.

First time I saw him he was driving a Plum Crazy 440 6 Pack 4 speed convert in a driving rainstorm in downtown Chicago. My first thought was, "Why in the world is this guy driving that car in this weather?" It was just another car to him. I later found out that he worked about 70 feet from me. Great guy.

Talk about having some special cars for sale.

I noticed in his ebay selling history that he recently sold another 70-442 W30 vert at 341k. Quite a collector, to say the least.

He's got 3 or 4 Hemi E-body convertibles, plus several more. I've tagged along with a friend after MCACN and he's been a gentleman. Not sure why he got the Olds bug, but he has a few 4-speeds. I think one is the original-paint red one, and the other is the black "Buddy Holt" car.

A few of the big-name collectors snapped up 4-speed W-30 rags, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was from his peer pressure.

Why is there no W30 in any of the boxes on those 2 broadcast cards?

'70 W-30 'Vert

WOW, haven't seen the name "Buddy Holt" appear on an Olds forum for quite some time! Interestingly enough, he still owns only 2 Oldsmobiles (67 Spanish Red 4-speed coupe owned since 1984 & a '64 Jetstar 1), but has taken an interest in MOPARS and late model Mustangs over the years. If that Triple Black. 70 4-speed 'vert that you are referring to is the one that had the factory installed W27 on it, that wasn't my car. I've been looking for it and the Platinum '70 W-31 I sold to a guy in PA IN 1990 to resurface on the Internet. Sold the W-30 to a fellow in NY in 1987. Hope everyone is doing well.

I grew up in the 1980s so I remember the article on your cars. If I recall correctly, the car was either owned new by a lady or you bought it from a lady.

I don't recall the specs of this car so I can't comment on the W-27 thing but I believe the one you're talking about was on eBay last year and was owned by Steve Klein (yep - a Mopar guy).

That is correct; she was from Albany, NY and sold me the car when she divorced from her husband in 1985. It had 34,000 miles on it, bill of sale, etc and I paid $9,500 for it. EVERYONE thought I was completely nuts! I sold it to SP in NY in 1987 for $12,500; everyone thought HE was nuts! He had previously bought the Matador Red '70 Coupe with the W45 wing on it that made the cover of "Car Review" magazine in mid 1986. The Black car did NOT have the W27...

Pretty sure your old car is the one pictured. You should message the owner of the blue car on eBay and ask him.

I noticed also no "W30" on the broadcast card. I had a 1970 W30 Convertible, that also did not have the W30 on the broadcast card. I bought it from the original owner and there was other documentation showing it as real including GM of Canada documentation.

I've been in touch with the owner. Believe it or not, his intent on purchasing the Triple Black 'vert was to swap it for an EBody Mopar 'vert. Apparently, the only way the MOPAR guy would part with his car was to trade it for the black aforementioned Olds (that specific car). When the owner bought the W-30 he fell in love with it and kept it. He either has or had three of them at one time.

Yeah, he sent me pics of his MOPARS this afternoon; simply incredible. I'm sure there are some Third World Nations that don't own those kind of total assets!

Kool Oldsmobiles for certain. I liked the Red Black unrestored W30 4 speed convertible best.
