Are there any 70-72 cars left that DON'T have a repro O.A.I. hood and incorrect W30 side stripes?
VIN K says that it started life as an L34 350 4bbl single exhaust car, so not only have the hood and stripes and 455 been added, but also the cutout back bumper. Frankly, who cares if it's a real 442 or not? It's a 72 small block car with 180 HP net in original form. And of course, it has every option in the book, almost certainly added since the resto. Cruise, tilt, inside hood lock, dual gate, 8 track, power trunk (nice job on installing that button in the glovebox, by the way... is this an example of the workmanship in the rest of the car?), rubber trunk mat, W27 cover, power windows, Rally Pac...
Emblem alignment needs a little work...
Gotta love the ad writeup:
Of course it has the correct 442 rear bumper with the exhaust cut outs
Which is NOT correct for a VIN K car. Just sayin'
And I think this answers my question about the workmanship:
Cruise control ( we have not tried), Factory Air conditioning that will need to be charged up to be functional, 8-track ( not currently working)
But at least "The motor has a very desirable W-30 intake" - also a repro, I'm sure.
$40K is probably not an unreasonable ask for this, but I suspect selling price would be in the mid-30s.
Someone spent a lot of money on that project. As others have noted, no it's not a 442 that left the factory like that. In spite of some flaws in details, (like crappy door cards, missing striping on deck lid, 8 track door lid missing, cowl lacing not installed, etc) it looks really nice. If I wanted a 442 that badly I'd look at the 71 models which have automatic provenance and performance in their VIN documentation. The X, U, and V code 1972 442's are pretty rare, but this one isn't one of them.
Looks familiar but they lost the rear spoiler..... Orange 72
As similar as that looks, it isn't the same car. For one thing, the VIN is different. This car from last year was an M-code 350 4bbl dual exhaust car originally. Also, note the differences in the dash and interior.
Here's the interior from the car we're discussing in this thread. Note the hood lock, accessory switches, and factory style 8-track. Also note the Cutlass Supreme glovebox emblem vs. the 442 emblem above.
Thanks everyone. It's what I thought, a good driver quality non-numbers matching tribute. Agree, worth more on the low 30's side. Color isn't to my taste, but a decent wrap might do the job and also add the stripes on the trunk lid.
