77 Cutlass Brougham Rolling Chassis and More
Guys, I never thought that I’d be doing this, but circumstances may leave me little room to do otherwise. I have a 1977 Cutlass Supreme Brougham rolling chassis that I’m willing to sell. I am in the western suburbs of the Chicago area. I bought this one in Tucson, Arizona back in the early 1990’s and drove it back here with the intent on fully restoring it. I pulled out the stock 350 (no windowed mains for me!!) and the THM 350 tranny (I only like THM 400’s). Being from Arizona, it needs a new paint job and the interior upholstery was shot, but other than that, the frame and body are rock solid. By chance, I happened to come across another 77 Cutlass Supreme here that was (surprisingly) solid and it didn’t need a paint job. So I shifted my restoration efforts to this “new” Cutlass, but kept the Brougham because the idea of having two 77 Cutlasses, one with a 455 and the other with a 350, put a smile on my face. Now, life has taken some new directions and I’m beginning to question whether I will get to restoring the Brougham at all. I’ve entertained similar thoughts over the past year or two, but what stopped me was the fact that the Brougham frame and body were in such good shape and, as we know, they aren’t making these things any more….this car was just too good to give up. Thinking further, even if I do restore it, I really don’t have a place to put it and why restore something like that if you can’t protect it from the elements? So, right now, I’m thinking that the better move would be to sell the Brougham rolling chassis to a Cutlass fan that can really use her and give her a good home. I really don’t have a good idea of what a fair price is for something like this, but I can find out. My main interest is in seeing that it goes to someone who can really use it. I’m not in a position of that I have to get rid of it right at this moment, but I’d rather put the feelers out there now and find a good home for it instead of being backed into a corner at some future date and time and be forced to give it to the local junkyard. As a person of faith and one who firmly believes that, if the Deity drives anything, it’s a vintage Olds, the bad karma that I would incur from the latter move would be insurmountable. Let me know if you are interested and I can take some pictures of it and e-mail them. I also have a machined (+30) 1975 350 block and a set of restored No. 8 heads that were going to be the back-up motor for the Brougham that I’m willing to sell and a dual hump cross-member that was intended for the dual exhaust that I was going to put in.

Folks, I’m sorry to be doing this, and I wouldn’t blame you at all for being angry with me, but I am going to retract my offer to sell the dual hump cross-member. As you could tell from my initial post, I was and still am conflicted about selling the 77 Cutlass rolling chassis. It’s a project that I really want to do, but with some of the turns life has taken, I just don’t see myself getting to it anytime soon. That’s why I think the better move would be to get it in the hands of someone that could actually use it now. After more thinking though, I do not want to give up on the idea that I could get to another Cutlass restoration project at some point down the road in my life. If and when I do, I’ll definitely want to go with a dual exhaust like I have on my other Cutlass. So, I think that it would be more prudent for me to hang onto to the cross-member for now. I apologize for coming across as misleading. That was not my intent.
What I can say for certain is that, in addition to the rolling chassis, I have that set of restored #8 heads and a set of bare 403 heads for sale.

Just to let y'all know I just installed a 74 buick regal x-member in my 77 cutlass and fit perfect and are cheaper off the net when you find them and they cut the x-member weight in half for they are lighter and fits a 3" exhaust
