Too bad they didn't remove the rocker trim when they made it a Faux Four Two.

Joe,
Check the documentation tab on the site. The body tag and matching broadcast card indicate it is a W-29 car. Don't know when or who installed the rocker mld's, but, it is a well documented car.

The molding is unfortunate, as are the stripes. I remain skeptical of a grainy photocopy of a fax of a broadcast card, especially when people are selling these on ebay.

The original broadcast card is in a book fully documenting the car (#'s matching) and should still be with the car. I owned this car for over 20 years and found the broadcast card in the back of the passenger front seat myself. I sold the car earlier this year to a dealer in N.C.. He has it up for auction. I do not wish to answer 100 post's about the car since I don't own it anymore. I just wanted the Oldsmobile community to know that it is available.

Great car, truly looks to be one of 66 factory V code (L75 + M20) cutlass supreme convertibles ever built in 1972. Most of us on CO would be curious about the odd side stripes and rocker panels on such a rare factory specimen.

And as always, confirming the 442 option in 1972 is very tricky. The more documentation the better.

And to top it off, many COers probably wonder why you sold it to a dealer and not offered it here first.

Not defending this car, but I've seen an X code 442 that someone added the rocker trim to. First thought I had was it was a fake car. Then saw the X in the VIN. No disputing that. Owner said he was removing the incorrect trim to make it authentic.

This W29 has a lot going for it assuming the broadcast card is authentic. Even has the correct Oldsmobile script on the hood, although I agree the stripes are hideous. I love the color combo BTW

He did offer it here first, albeit discreetly. Check this thread out: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...6/#post1267593

Problem is that is hidden in a thread that's not its own.

That sure looks like a weird shoulder belt mounting (or exit) location.

This is what I was meaning:

The shoulder belts in question that are coming over the top of the lift cylinder panel:

How they are mounted and should exit between the door panel and the top cylinder panel:

In 1972 a 442 convert was Cutlass Supreme with W29 442 OPTION Added
Mine says Cutlass on the glove box door..

So technically it is a CUTLASS SUPREME

Not a separate model like 1971 442 was

I think that power brakes were available on the '72 455 4 speed cars.

The photographs show that the top boot snaps on. Did Oldsmobile change to snap style boots on '72 models?

No, they did not.

Is it just the camera angle, or did Stevie Wonder install the 442 emblems on the decklid?

The top boot never came with snaps. It was just a plastic trim piece on the top boot that would then slide and tuck under the chrome molding and be held in place by that. Inside the top boot would have 2 snap pieces on each side but those were inside the car. Looks really bad with the snaps all over the back like that. Doesn't sit tight like it should.

The side body stripe is not to my liking. The factory did a good job with it and not a fan of when it's modified like that.

The oil pan drain plug is not in the right spot unless it's aftermarket?

Ball joints and grease points are dry, which makes me nervous. There should always be a little grease showing as that means it was greased properly. Sure, you wipe the excess but being bone dry means it probably wasn't greased recently or properly.

Look closely on the drivers side fender bottom. You can see a rust bubble forming there. Not a good sign.

Those broadcast cards on ebay are not correct as they are missing the date stamp on the side of the card. They are worthless
