'71 Cutlass SX For Sale
For Sale: My 1971 Cutlass SX. 1 of 1820 hardtops produced. For those unfamiliar, the SX was an "insurance buster" option in 1970 & 1971 to get the 442 performance with a Cutlass insurance premium. This option for the Cutlass Supreme gave you the 455 engine w/Turbo 400 trans, 442 Bumper w/Twin Cutouts for Trumpet Exhaust (regular Cutlass & Supreme bumpers are flat along the bottom), & SX badging. This car was sold new in Birmingham, AL (Royal Olds) on July 26, 1971 & has lived its life in the B'ham area. I have the Protect-O-Plate Card (hard to find), Warranty Booklet, & Owner's Manual (w/1st owner's name who still lives in the area). The car was originally Viking Blue, White Vinyl Top, & Original White Interior with SSII Wheels (also originally Blue). Have a pic of another car w/that combination for reference. It is now Red, needing a repaint. Has the Floor Shifter with Console & Storage Compartment, A/C (not working), PS, PB. 104K Original Miles. Engine runs smooth. Switched to HEI Distributer. Video of engine on YouTube:
. Needs a Master Cylinder, Rear Axle repair, & tires (dryrotted). I am asking $6800.(USD). Want an Olds Fan to get this!!!! Be glad to answer any questions.

MUST...RESIST...ASKING...
Can you please send more pics, including of any potentially rusted/bubbled/questionable areas such as door seams or cowl/rear window or trunk pan, to vette442 AT hotmail.com? Thanks.

Thanks Scot.
Both of you have some nice cars. Trying to help keep all we can on the road.....I love A Bodies (as you see, A Special, too). I'm only selling to put some money into my '70 GTO Judge (Yes, a Pontiac). One car has to go & The Judge ruled in its own favor.

I just saw this car in person and let me tell you, I'd like to buy it. But unfortunately, I need this car like I need another hole in my head. I already have two toys taking up residence in my small two car garage, a 69 Cutlass S and a 70 442, neither of which am I willing to give up in order to buy this one. And with me already owning two nice cars and several parts cars, buying this SX I would classify me as a car horder.
Yes, there are issues with the car, but they all can be easily overcome. Hopefully someone here will make a deal for her and restore her to her former glory. If not, I may have to become a car horder. LOL
Seriously, if I still had the warehouse space I would probably try to make a deal for this car. But right now I am on the fence. Maybe, maybe not. If I buy this car I'll have to store her outside until I got my storage situation worked out.
IMO, Someone with the know how and skills, needs to get this car and restore her.

Thanks for the honest assessment......Update....Talked with the original owner & his wife (was HER car) yesterday. Great time going down Nostalgia Ave. He did point out to me that the car DID come with the wheels painted body color. A couple of people asked me about this.

I am interested in the car but as you can see I am in Phoenix. Can I get more detailed pictures of the car as in any rust problems, bottom of quarters doors and fenders? What is going on on right sail panel? Rust or just paint lifting ? How solid are floors and frame ? I assume under carriage is all original? Pictures of under carriage would be great. What owner of the car are you or do you know? Do you have docs showing that the car has 104,000 orig miles? I look forward to the pics and your reply.

Paint is coming off from bottom of sail panels. There was some previous work on them assuming from when the top was removed many years ago. The last paint work on car was at least 20+ yrs ago. The qtrs./fenders/floors are solid w/little to no rust detected. The worst rust is a small patch where the trunk meets the bumper. More pics at http://s1172.photobucket.com/user/muntz007/library/
I am the 4th owner. I don't have docs, but have talked with the 1st & 3rd owners who assured me of the mileage. I know the car has been a 2nd car or weekend car most all its life. I have only put 8k miles on her in the last 11 yrs.

I'm not sure about any Olds clubs in the area. This is actually my first Olds. I am mostly a Pontiac man. I have a '70 Judge from Brownell Pontiac & a '72 Grand Ville conv. from Doug Willey Pontiac, both in B'ham.
