I'm not an expert but I'd say selling the $1500 hood lowered the worth of his car by $3000

 

I'd have to agree about the hood. Although, if the balancer, intake, and breather assembly are genuine and not trashed, it is more than likely worth the $3500.00 reserve. Those parts alone are probably in the $2K neighborhood (if not more) and there's a 4-speed, bucket seats, motor, rear and so on. Might be a deal for someone.

 

Looks ike the right side has 1/4" of bondo, front to rear, but otherwise worth the reserve, IMO.
Great starting point of a semi-rare piece!
