I spent lots of time looking this car over at MCACN - it sure looked original to me. I took many photos documenting as much as I could - never did run into the owner though.
Crazy money for these things.

That car is well known in the "W-30 Conv. 4-speed" group. It is original and unrestored. I've never seen it in person, but a few of my cronies (who know these car well) have and say it is a time warp. Not many (if any) this nice and still original. I live "original" cars, and always have, long before the current fad of un-touched cars. This is a "SWEETHEART"!!!!!!!!

Wow!
That car is amazing. I don't know if you guys checked out the Dropbox link for more photos https://www.dropbox.com/sh/o051tr6knb5y1w7/cy1sU2Y6kf
Would you assume the exhaust system has been redone? At least the tail pipes? I see the trumpet tips seem to extend too far out.. Just curious....Dream Car for sure...jealous.

It's a nice example of an original car. There is no question the exhaust has been changed. I'm a lot older than most guys here, I was drag racing when these cars were new. The tailpipes are definitely out too far. The original tips were shorter and welded to the pipe. When you put the tail pipes on, they had to fall in a certain place, +- an inch or 2 that they were pushed in the muffler. I think the head pipes were flat where the crossmember is. You know...you look at a car like this, it's great...but things HAVE been changed. You can't look and say...wow, my trumpets should stick out a foot more than they do now. There are other small things...the red cap on the alt...never seen that on any Olds, it's a Pontiac thing. It's crazy bucks for the car, at least in my opinion. I would have to look again, but I think the alts been changed, too.

I don't think anyone is making a claim that nothing has been changed or altered, ever on this W-30.
The point is that it is one of the most original and unrestored W-30, 4 speed convertibles in existence.
You can nit pic it all you want and that is Ok for points of discussion.......but it still is "one of the most original and unrestored W-30, 4 speed convertibles in existence."
The current owner, who collects special Top Tier muscle cars doesn't really care to change anything to please anyone other than himself.
We invited this car as well as many of his other cars to MCACN and he did not care to have them judged. We are very appreciative that he chose to display them for all to see.

Tom, thanks so much for the additional pics. Got some important details cleared up for me so as to get my W-30 resto right.

They are bargains? They will go up in value? You can't be serious. You know...I own 3 nice musclecars, I'm age 60. I know a lot of guys who own really nice cars, most are my age or older. in 10-15 years, I'll be tired of my cars, and so will my friends. Mark my words, in 10-15 years there will be a LOT of REALLY nice cars on the market. You can see that happening now. Like those 2 cars...no...maybe not, they are unique. But personally...I would be REALLY embarrassed to take the red one to a show or cruise. Nifty story and mileage, but I would be embarrassed to tell people what I paid for it.

I for one would not be embarrassed to drive this car to a show, though I agree it is ridiculous how much value people put on these cars. Makes me want to sell both of mine. I also suspect the values will go down in a decade or two (which really means I should sell my cars now) but then we will see the 90s and 2000s cars going up in price.
Its interesting how the un-restored hardtop I have gets more attention than the mint convertible at shows lately - I assume its because people see it and feel like maybe they can find one like that or can afford it. Where the convertible, for those that know what it is, is perceived as unobtainable - though I have had it for a couple of decades now and paid very little for it (thus the difficulty in parting with it)

Thank you. I'm glad somebody said it. The stratospheric prices benefit nobody but the seller and hurt the rest of the enthusiasts. It is about time "we" quit being mesmerized by those out there drumming up the ridiculous prices and start understanding the damage it does.
My first house cost me 32000....cool car, neat history but crazy price.
