I'm surprised that it has not sold. This car is a one owner, never wrecked, in excellent mechanical shape. Just needs some cosmetics to be a $25000 car.

Might be the engine. A lot of people want numbers matching.

If it was numbers matching, it wouldn't be this cheap. The original engine is available and it can go with the car, but the price goes up.

Oh God dude, sell it with the car! Please.

For instance, if I were in the market for the car, and could have the original carb to pan engine alongside the car in its current config, I would consider 15k to be a steal and 18k to be a good deal.

Don't separate yet another Olds from its heart; there aren't that many left.

I'll make a new deal here. If anyone wants the car with the original numbers matching engine, I'll pull the Mondello engine and install the 66 400. $13000 firm.

How about with both engines but leaving the Mondello 455 in the car?

The engine was built in early 90's. Don't know how much horsepower, never dyno'd. Will sell for $6000. Cost over $10K to build today. Has no more than 5000 miles.

Good luck with your sale, you put a very fair price on what you own.

^Agreed. Never a good reason to separate an engine from the car it rolled out of the factory with...

What if it had a 330
455 vs 330
I have a 64 cutlass
It had a tired 330
So I went with the 455 c heads rebuilt
I can't imagine someone would ask for the 330

You never know, some people like the piece of mind of having the engine the car was born with. However since it is 442, I would like to keep the 400 engine with the car.

People ask for whatever you want to GIVE them with the deal, but its not always in your best interest to do that.

If you have a worn out 330, then its not a big deal to toss it in if they like the idea of keeping the original engine.

In this guys case, he had a fairly desirable original 66 400... Thats worth money on its own- so if people weren't willing to pay his price to have it included in the deal with the car, then too bad.

Its nice if you can keep an original motor with the car, but at the end of the day it comes down to the buyer, and what he is willing to pay.
I watched this ad for a long time... and i'm sure at the earlier posted prices a deal could have been made to have both engines- but nobody bit until the price was DIRT cheap IMO... (probably due in no small part to the owners original reluctance to allow pics to be posted.) And at that price, i don't blame him one bit for not including anything else with the car.

Anyway, Its not the sellers responsibility to throw away money (by giving away the other engine) because the next guy doesn't care about originality enough to pay for it.

When i sold my 66 in December, I had a couple potential buyers trying to get me to give them the original 330 from my car in the deal... But again- they wouldn't pay asking price, wanted to beat me down... And to me, that 330 was a 20k mile, no smoking, good running engine that I trust & will be able to drop in another project and not worry about... Thats worth good $$, so no way was i going to just give it away. I asked a resonable premium to have it included and they declined.... So at the end of the day, its not the seller, but the buyer who's to blame for "breaking up" a matched set.

I agree with you 100%, n my opinion it would have been worth the premium to keep them together. As stated, some just don't care.

Thanks for reply
I wonder sometimes what people may
Say
But i think I got turned on by the idea
Of a 455 in that car
Sure runs better
But than again the old 330 was worn
And finding Pistons was going to be tough
I was going to have it bored to 350 spec and
Put flat tops in
But I didnt
Oh well i can still get the engine back
But I don't think I'm going to go back
It is dressed up as a 330
Original air cleaner and gold paint
Any ołds guy can tell

It depends on the extra cost for the orig motor and the cost of rebuilding it. You don't want to get all upside down in it and have way more in it than it is worth. Maybe a car with a lot of options or a W-30 would be worth extra cost. Not knowing the how much the orig motor was and all of the specifics between the buyer and sell,it is hard to judge the situation.

The guy I sold it to has it listed. I put a lot of work into it,not just new interior and money. Didn't really want to sell it,but wifes medical came into play. Really liked this car. Luckily I have more.

I have more
