Looks a little ridden hard and put away wet. What is up with that stripe? Gets fatter as it goes back. Repaired rear quarters maybe? Could be a nice looking desireable car when finished if it's a true W car. Take some good cash to bring it back.
Someone had a beautiful 1972 Olds 442 W-30, that was in excellent condition and was selling for $47k

Why would anyone pay $28k for this car?

Earlier I sent the craigslist link to one of my brothers. The link didn't work so I figured it was sold. Got the craigslist cow saying the link was no longer good. Works now though.
Amen. The amount of cash it would take to make that car right would never be returned. Look at everything that you Can see. Imagine what you don't see. That car will need everything. Like Everything.

Appears to be a plain jane stripper car, pretty rare in a 72. Seems they started loading them up with AC and power options... it being a 4spd, bumps up the value and desirability in my book... wonder if they got the steep gear set and posi for the rear.
A/C was not available with W30 for the 1972 model year. 3.42 gears were standard with the W30 that year (with any trans) and the only optional ratio was 3.73. G80 (anti spin) was standard equipment with the W30 that year also.
Exactly. It's always 10x worse than what you see. In one photo you can see the driver side floor pan looks rusted/rotted. This car is worth maybe $5k, tops, in its current condition. One will spend $50k-$80k getting it back to like new condition. I would rather buy that guys fully restored 1972 W-30 for $47k.
1971 MT cam: 294/296 deg, 68 deg overlap
1971 AT cam: 285/287 deg, 57 deg overlap
1972 MT cam: 294/296 deg, 68 deg overlap (same as 1971)
1972 AT cam: 286/287 deg, 61 deg overlap
I'm guessing that the real reason why A/C was not offered on the 1972 W30 cars with AT is that the only rear axle ratios offered with the W30 package that year were 3.42 and 3.73. As we've discussed many times, A/C was limited to a 3.23 rear axle. Keep in mind that 1972 was the oddball year where the delay in the colonnade cars forced the 1971 A-bodies to be reissued as 1972 models at the very last minute, so a lot of previously-available options got dropped - like the fact that there was no six cylinder offered in the 1972 model year, no W35 wing, and no red inner fender wells (except for a tiny handful of very early cars).
Sadly, you may have a similarly hard time today. The 72s still don't get the love. It makes no sense. Obviously the car in this thread isn't going to bring anywhere near the $28K ask.
