I would clean that up and keep as a survivor!
Just redo the seats, and make it run, drive and stop like it should, and maybe pull the dents out in the door.
Keep it as a ratty musclecar!

Looks a little ridden hard and put away wet. What is up with that stripe? Gets fatter as it goes back. Repaired rear quarters maybe? Could be a nice looking desireable car when finished if it's a true W car. Take some good cash to bring it back.

Nevermind I forgot my car was originally a two tone car and had the top trim.

Probably around $50k - $80k to restore it properly. So all in around $80k- $120k

Something is funky with the side stripes. Appear to be too tall/wide. Wonder if the frame is bent from the door being hit?

The stripes get thicker as they go back. I am guessing those rear quarters have been worked. The ad is gone now. Someone must have jumped in.

Can your verify 72's?

Someone had a beautiful 1972 Olds 442 W-30, that was in excellent condition and was selling for $47k

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...7/#post1337610

Why would anyone pay $28k for this car?

Amen. The amount of cash it would take to make that car right would never be returned. Look at everything that you Can see. Imagine what you don't see. That car will need everything. Like Everything.

Earlier I sent the craigslist link to one of my brothers. The link didn't work so I figured it was sold. Got the craigslist cow saying the link was no longer good. Works now though.

Exactly. It's always 10x worse than what you see. In one photo you can see the driver side floor pan looks rusted/rotted. This car is worth maybe $5k, tops, in its current condition. One will spend $50k-$80k getting it back to like new condition. I would rather buy that guys fully restored 1972 W-30 for $47k.

Appears to be a plain jane stripper car, pretty rare in a 72. Seems they started loading them up with AC and power options... it being a 4spd, bumps up the value and desirability in my book... wonder if they got the steep gear set and posi for the rear.

A/C was not available with W30 for the 1972 model year. 3.42 gears were standard with the W30 that year (with any trans) and the only optional ratio was 3.73. G80 (anti spin) was standard equipment with the W30 that year also.

Yes I'm sure. Read the factory literature, where it says "N.A. with C60". We're not talking about 1970 or 71.

I'm not saying you're wrong i just thought you could order A/C on all 70-72 442 W30.
So i am completely wrong or was it available on 70-71, just not 72?

No A/C available for a W-30 in 1972 no matter the transmission option and No A/C available for manual transmission in 1970-71, but A/C available for automatic transmission in 70-71.

Exactly. You would have to put so much cash in that car. Buy the finished one for 45 and you would save tens of thousands.

Silver truck on the left is a silver extended cab Power Wagon. Trying to remember what is in front of it. Think that is a Dodge too. One of my brothers owned them. Had a 66 Imperial ragtop too. I will ask him.

I should know this, but was the X vin 72 engine the manual transmission 71 W-30 engine?

Close, but not quite, and there were still two versions of the L77 engine for the 1972 model year, MT and AT. Obviously the 1971 motors had H heads and the 1972 motors had GA heads. Cams were slightly different.

1971 MT cam: 294/296 deg, 68 deg overlap
1971 AT cam: 285/287 deg, 57 deg overlap

1972 MT cam: 294/296 deg, 68 deg overlap (same as 1971)
1972 AT cam: 286/287 deg, 61 deg overlap

I'm guessing that the real reason why A/C was not offered on the 1972 W30 cars with AT is that the only rear axle ratios offered with the W30 package that year were 3.42 and 3.73. As we've discussed many times, A/C was limited to a 3.23 rear axle. Keep in mind that 1972 was the oddball year where the delay in the colonnade cars forced the 1971 A-bodies to be reissued as 1972 models at the very last minute, so a lot of previously-available options got dropped - like the fact that there was no six cylinder offered in the 1972 model year, no W35 wing, and no red inner fender wells (except for a tiny handful of very early cars).

Sadly, you may have a similarly hard time today. The 72s still don't get the love. It makes no sense. Obviously the car in this thread isn't going to bring anywhere near the $28K ask.
