Gas Monkey Garage is selling off all of its vehicles. Above is the 1972 Olds 442/CS Convertible (VIN code "V") and it appears to have a real W-31 differential. Of course it's not a numbers matching car and it's a pseudo-resto mod with an overdrive trans but still a 455 Olds with a carb. Not a show car but looks like a decent street cruiser. Paint is not perfect but decent enough for a road car. Looks like someone scrapped the front cross-member and scuffed up the oil pan.
Gas Monkey Garage bough the car in December 2021, so they only had it for 9 months, not sure if they even did anything with it besides buying it and driving it.
I think it will sell for close to $100k but I think it's only really worth around $50k-$60k based on the condition of the build. If they cleaned up the undercarriage, stopped the oil leak on the engine (headers have oil stains on them) and maybe added EFI or better suspension/brakes, then it could be a true pro touring car and be worth more $$$. Just my opinion.
I think it is good that they probably didn't do anything to it and just drove it. I think that lead guy is a monkey, a goon, a joke, a sheister, used car salesman in a politician's suit. He is all talk and no go. Everything he does is for show and if it wasn't for his team the cars he produced would be worthless. Oh, did I say I don't like him?
There's a reason why I don't watch ***-Monkey Garage. What a way to F-up a rare V-code car. There were a bazillion 350-powered Supreme convertibles that could have been used for this.
I've probably mentioned this before, but my wife had the misfortune of meeting Rawlins when she was still at GM CCA. GM sold him a COPO Camaro (purely for the marketing opportunity, as he committed to building it and showcasing it Fast 'n Loud). Her overall impression was that he was full of himself, and a jerk. Dennis Collins, on the other hand, is extremely knowledgeable and personable.
reading through I don't think that Gas Monkey actually did anything to the car but acquire it. They may have had plans but doesn't look like they did any work on it.
They are neither. They appear to be aftermarket versions of the 1980s wheels, which Olds simply called "Super Stock". In any case, SSII/III does not refer to bolt-in vs snap-in centers. It refers to argent vs body color (and again, these are neither). From the 1971 SPECS booklet. Note RPO N66 and N67.
Here's a page from the 1985 Dealer Brochure. Note they are just "Super Stock body color" or "Super Stock chrome".
Says the car was "restored' in the 90's by the prior owner and did some updates in 2012. These guys have not laid a finger on it since they bought it last year. If they did, it wouldn't encourage me to have them lay one finger on my car! And yes, what a waste of a very rare V code..... there is nothing left of it's original drive train.

Thanks, Joe! I always wondered what those were called. I was pretty sure they weren’t SSII as they said.

Not a defense because I agree 100%, but my understanding is it was pretty much F-ed up by the time GMG ever saw it.
So many BaT idiots who are praising the car. The car is not the worst example but it's far from a nice restoration or a nicely done Pro Touring car. It's got some issues and the quality of the restoration is average at best.

yeah, seems like a good time to reset some expectations. Wonder if the seller would report you
Main mechanic Aaron seems to know his ***** but RichardRawlings is an arrogant, basic used car sales, bull **** artist, he just happens to have some good looks and charisma so prime time TV made him a star in the car world..
The car sold for $67,442 plus 5% buyers fee commission ($3,372) = $70,814
Buyer should pull the W-31 differential and sell it to recoup some money. Install a 12 Bolt Chevy and call it a day. Car is not stock numbers matching anyways.
