This 1972 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds Cutlass Supreme is one of approximately 130 convertibles produced for the model year and is believed to have been used as a festival car for the 1972 Indianapolis 500. It is finished in Cameo White with gold stripes over black vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 455ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes a white soft top, a black boot cover, Indy 500 Festival and Indianapolis Motor Speedway decals, 14” Super Stock III wheels, a Hurst shifter, a push-button radio, and faux-woodgrain interior trim. This Cutlass Supreme Convertible was acquired by the seller in 2019 and is now offered with a window sticker, replacement decals, spare parts, factory literature, a 1972 Indianapolis 500 Official Program signed by Roger Penske, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

There are many who know more than me, but, since it is not anyone's car here,
I've never cared for the non-reflective stripe version.
It has a non-factory arrangement of the Wing and Wheel Flying Tire and the Festival logo only. It should either have nothing, or the H/O, the Wing, and the door text, or all that and the festival logo. The left Festival decal is wrecked, right flying tire is crooked.
Front bumper looks towed.
72 Cutlasses had an in-windshield antenna.
Car's paint is not pristine (not that it matters, but it affects worth)
Car has idiot lights and a tach. Car was NOT a ralley pack car.
Weird sticker on trunk.
Right exhaust is very low.
Wheel paint is not right.
Sport wheel is ok.
Shifter ball may not be original.
Nice old spare that needs to be garage art.
Aftermarket overflow jug.
I think the thermal overload on the compressor is bypassed.
Rusty underside.
Lots of spare parts provided in sale for that chassis and festival decals.
I think that's the right carb.
No showing vin on trans, or rear end code.
Mileage may be right. I am looking at the brake pedal and the odometer.
The festival sticker and registration look real, but could have been transplanted. If they have the 1972 Indiana registration, that could help, but that's a tall order. We almost had the festival car list be public knowledge finally, but the guy who said he was going to post it bitched out and then wouldn't post it, claiming some privacy excuse, which leads me to believe the list is either fake or non-existent. It does have a March 23 Indiana Inspection paper, so I believe it was at least in Indiana at the time of the race. It seems to have been sold to Hurst, which may have been how the festival cars happened. It appears to not have its parade flag holders.
I think that's a good #3 car, as in weekend car shows. I think, pre-Rona, it was a $30k car, give or take. Adding in the Rona Panic price inflation, I think its inflated value is around ~75k, so its 85k sale is high. This car has got provenance and could be, assuming the trans matches, fully restored to a top dollar 72 H/O convertible, but it is not there yet.
I like the car; I think it is what it says it is other than the tach being added.

The car is pretty decent, couldn't believe the bidding at the end! Pre-Rona... these cars were still bringing $50k plus, I"ll take every convertible for $30k! Car does have some issues that are easily fixable in my opinion, except for the hole in the fender where the antenna is. Koda, I believe those to be the original stripes on the car too, originals all tend to have that color and correct fade out too... all festival cars should have had all of the graphics too, which this one doesn't. But the dealer did remove some of them to help them sell, so who knows. My old track car, came from Collins Oldsmobile too without any of the door decals. FYI, my old car is currently on the market in the Chicago area for $190k....
