SOLD- 1972 Cutlass S for Sale -SOLD
Hello All!
I'm new here but have been a reader for quite some time.
O.A.I. (Olds Anonymous Inductee, standing I say) "My name is Ken, and I have had a 30 year addiction of Olds ownerships, from a kid's first car at 16 to now. (You know this sickness never goes away!)
Current Olds:
1972 Cutlass S, Sport Coupe - 350/350
Two-tone, Cameo White on Saddle Bronze
(and of course, wifey's '02 Silhouette)
Former Olds:
1970 Cutlass Supreme - 350/350
Black halo vinyl on Burgundy
1972 Cutlass Supreme - 350/350
Black vinyl on Red
***********
I'm planning to part with my current "post car", and I wanted to get some opinions from fellow lovers.
Because of new membership, I'm limited where I can post, I can't edit my profile or avatar.
Would it be appropriate to post a here link with pictures and a write up?
- Thanks for your input!

Thank you for your help, citcapp
Since I did not post in the For Sale area, things to note:
The Cutlass is located in the western Pennsylvania area, not far from Pittsburgh, (Go Steelers) and is available to be viewed. Beaver PA, 15009 to be specific.
I am not sure of pricing... I was hoping to get some honest opinions before listing. Sure would like to see her go to another “addict”.

I have added some additional pictures of the frame (and more) to the Web Page set up for car. See the Link in my signature.
All the photos are there.
But here is the Link to all pictures and details of the Cutlass:
http://home.comcast.net/~kenap/
I added more pictures today…
I had originally posted looking for some pricing suggestions… nothing specific came.
I was going to post on eBay today with a $5000 reserve, seems to be at the low end of previous sales in this condition.
Please, if you are interested, let me know now - It's headed for the eBay auction block today.
Thanks - KAP

ill go $2000
don't waste your money on ebay, youll never see $5000 bid on it.
start your bidding at 2 grand with no reserve.
if you dont' get an offer by the last day, cancel the auction.
never ever sell a car on ebay, use it for marketing purposes only.

I know several people who have sold cars on eBay and got much more than they expected. Of course I used to be an eBay seller and now do to their greed of high fees and over saturation, I don't use it. I think its $40 to list a car wether it sells or not. That may have changed by now if they were smart. I sold a few trailers on eBay and got more for them than what I paid for the trailers new and had used them for about 5-7 years. Of course steel went up in price, but that was part of it. If you are serious about selling it, I would check into the eBay fees involved first. If reasonable give it a try. You can always set a reserve, if you don't get it, then you are not obligated to sell. You are only looking for 1 person to pay your price, and many people will go to eBay looking for a specific vehicle.

first thing you have to do as a seller is be realistic.
do you want to really sell it,or are you just fishing?
honestly,i don't think you'll ever get anybody to give 5 grand for the car, unless you run across some knucklehead teenager.
why not?
because there are nicer cars out there available for 5 grand.
i just found a running driveable 72 4 speed cutlass for $2500 yesterday.
you could put the car on craigslist in several cities, that is totally free, but all you're going to get are thugs with no money.
it costs nothing to start an auction on ebay, but they blister you with fees if you sell.
just throw it on ebay for $500 with no reserve.you can say right in the auction what you want for the car,and put your phone number.
last day of the auction, cancel it
that is all ebay is good for now.
the fees have just gotten too high, because less people are going to ebay, and instead selling on craigslist.
craigslist is kicking ebay's ***.

I have to agree! Yes, you will get some riff raff trying to steal it from you, but last month, I put my '67 C/S convertible and '63 88 wagon, within 24 hours, they were both gone! Key is, like agtw31 said, "be realistic with the price", if you want to sell, price it to sell!

How is the rust on the car? What does it need to be nice? You have to think of that. Post up a couple of pictures.
Don't rank on a guy for wanting to sell his car. Telling him to start it at $500 makes it seem like your a bargain hunter trying to get his car for cheap, cheap.

i said start the auction at $500,and end the auction a day early.
how could i get the car for $500???
im not ranking on the guy,im trying to save him a lot of time,by asking a realistic price for the car, versus hoping for a miracle.
here, for your comparison, look at these cars:
one owner
64k actual miles
arizona car

Well, she's gone, (with a tear in my eye).
One week to sell, Craigslist (5000) / eBay (4000 reserve). I received ALOT of email, and many offers from both venues... all offers 4000+. I did not need to budge on price, I was confident of pricing considering her condition.
Near the end of eBay auction she was at $4800, I ended auction when a local buyer met asking price. I am pretty confident that it would have sold for more if I let auction complete.
The new owner is not too far away, and I'll be able to see her again, I'm sure. We are both pleased with the sale.
Thanks for everyone's encouragement here!
note: For anyone else looking to sell, don't be discouraged about what others assess the value of your car, the car will speak for itself, and if it's worthy of the price, it will not be difficult to get.

eventually i got what i wanted, and the buyer was educated about these cars, not some knucklehead off the street who thought it was just a neat car.
im glad you sold your car,but if you didnt want an honest opinion of your car,you shouldnt have asked for them..

(citcapp - maybe they can just let it go!? Thanks though)
Well guys & gals - the car is sold as described above. I recommended the new owner join and share in the knowledge here at ClassicOldsmobile.
I'll be removing my avatar in case he wants to use her depiction. I'll be replacing mine with one of my old flames (...'70 Supreme).
This did turn into an unnecessary flame war, disappointing. Other folks may find something useful in this thread, (maybe they'll find something else).
Enjoy!

5k cars
The amount of potential buyers goes way up when the price is down. People can usually come up with a few thousand bucks, but when your trying to sell a W31 or some other exotic car buyers will be more scarce and harder to please. I'm glad you got your price and went with your instincts on the price.
good job!
