1972 Cutlass Project, Built Motor - Whats it worth?

I'm contemplating selling my project to help pay down some debt for a house and am looking to you guys for advice. I got the car from my uncle and its been sitting its entire life. It has 34,829 original miles. Its a factory AC car and factory rear defrost as well. Since I've owned it I've just been slowly fixing what I could and acquiring parts. I have 90% of the parts to put this car back to completely original and also have a ton of parts to make it a fast cruiser/pro street car. Original 34k mile 350 and also fully built olds 455 built for boost (was going to use a roots blower). I have all the original interior panels and most of the parts for a complete black interior. Both quarter panels have been replaced along with both outer wheel wells, inner wheel wells are still rust free. Also the rear panel between the trunk and rear window has been replaced as well and also included are two brand new fenders. The trunk floor is sold and the interior floor has one hole on the drivers floor, everywhere else is solid and rust free. I'm looking to just recoup what I have into the motor so I was thinking of asking $8500. Does that seem fair for everything?

Now for the motor details:
- Eagle Forged Steel H-Beam connecting rods
- Forged Eagle Crank
- ARP Rod Bolts
- ARP Head Studs
- ARp Main Bolts
- Wiseco Pistons
- Bullet Cam
- Race Damper
- Miodon Gear Drive
- Melling High Volume Oil Pump
- Halo Support (girdle)
- Stainless valves
- Clevite Bearings

Parts Included
- Car
- Both motors
- Every body panel I have (New and used)
- All black interior pieces
- Power Window Setups (all four windows )
- Widened factory wheels
- 12 Bolt Rear
- Mint Front and rear bumpers
- Factory sport mirror option (driver and pass)
- 6L80E trans
- Tons of other factory parts too

Its difficult to get top dollar on a car thats in pieces and comes w pieces.

If i was in the market and you had receipts for the 455 build (j heads BTW) i might be inclined to offer 2-3k

You would do better parting it out IMHO I dont think you could get $8500 for it...maybe im wrong tho GLWS

Are you sure it isn't 138,000 miles? That's a lot of wear and deterioration for a 38,000 mile car. Like RetroRanger suggested, you'd probably have a lot more luck selling the 455 separately then unload the rest as parts either as a package or individually. Even valuing the engine at $3,000 (hard without seeing it running I think), the rest of the car is a long way from a $5500 value IMO.

Don't want to hurt your feelings, you're not going to get anywhere near what your asking price is for a basket case project with unknown condition of engines and transmission that have been sitting around for some time. In addition people are going to be concerned of how many missing parts are not included or poor condition ones that are. It being a Cutlass is not helping your cause either. I think it may be worth half what your looking for with the right person.

I was in the same boat when I tried selling my 70 442 a few years back. The car was in pieces and no one wanted it. I ended up selling the body and pieces separately and made 5K more that what I was hoping to sell the project for. Good luck with the sale
