This is exactly what i'm looking for in my budget. Any of you experienced cutlass guys mind chiming in on the asking price or overall condition? I have a cousin in Portland that I may be able to persuade to go look at this if it's still available. I'm just very put off not being able to look at something myself before I buy.

Remember that, for 1972, the 442, as noted, went back to being an option package available on any version of the Cutlass (Cutlass, Cutlass S, Cutlass Supreme) with any engine. You would want to verify that it really is a 442, and I'm not sure what's the best way to do that as the VIN won't tell you. A build sheet, the original window sticker or dealer invoice, etc. would certainly do it. As I understand it, it's not too difficult to clone a '72 442.

I have seen this car in person. It is a U code car but as I recall the original engine has been replaced. The quarters have had the rust cutout but not replaced. It is definitely worth saving and well optioned. The paint code is 26 Viking Blue. It is about a 1.5 hour drive east of Portland.

Wheels alone are worth a few hundred, that car is considered mint here in Chicago. I think as long as you don't get caught up in "number's matching" this would be a great car if it really is a driver. Many cars out thee do not have the original engine and in that case can provide less worries about modifying it as you go for your own enjoyment - just my .02

Car does not have the proper hood for a 72 442. The hood should have faux louvers (in black) and Oldsmobile script on the DS front. The lack of cowl vents at the back is correct for an AC car though. That suggests this car has been in a collision during it's lifetime and the wrong hood was installed. If it's a U code car without original engine it won't be as highly desirable as one that is. But the U in the VIN is still a draw. The rust issues at the back warrant a careful inspection of the frame, floor and trunk panels.

Yeah Oregon is a haul and I think it's already too late. I can't find any reply info for this guy even hitting the contact button. Actually the only way I can see this ad is by clicking on the link OP posted. It's alot farther then I thought it was from my cousin over there too. Still shopping....
