It's a true 442 with what appears to be it's original 455 and turbo 400. It starts right up and runs good, drives well and stops. It will need a trunk pan, the lower rear quaters and some tub work. The convertible top is complete, the seats are complete and should be easy to restore. The hood a factory piece with the metal frame and screen. The OAI Air Breather is missing. I'll post more pictures later in the week. It does have rust. The frame is solid. I may consider parting it out in the future.

The car is in Birmingham, but it is an Indiana car. We all know what that means. Rust!

1971 442 Convertible

I spent a few hours this last Friday looking over the car and with the help of some members here, I was able to confirm the drivetrain in this car is original to this car. Original motor, and original transmission. The engine runs and sounds great, but the car does not move on it's own. My guess is the transmission fliud leaked out. The motor doesn't appear to have ever been rebuilt.

The good:

An all original 1971 442, which very few were made.

The bad:

RUST!

The original fiberglass hood looks good on the outside, but it does have rust in the front lip. It was suggested to me the frame should be replaced for a proper fix.
The trunk pans, supports, and wheel tubs need to be replaced.
The lower quarters on both sides need replaced.
Under the rear seat it's soft.
Floor pans have been replaced. So plan on replacing them again.
Rust under the window on the dash.

So with that said, I have to be a realist, and I have lowered the price to $4800.00 or best reasonable offer, as she sits now. Or, let me keep the engine, transmission and the sport steering wheel, and we can go significantly lower.

After talking it over with some people who are very smart when it comes to these cars, I am going to go ahead and part her out. Unfortunately, another 442 is heading to the grave. I am planning on making lemonade out of the lemon I bought buy using the original 455 motor from this car for my own 442, a 1970 442 convertible. It may not be original to my car, but it will be a 455 from a 442, and fairly close in model years.

I will be posting this car up in the parts for sale section of this forum. Let me know what you need. Thanks to everyone who helped in decoding the car and confirming the originality of it’s drive train. I’ve learned a lot over the last week and enjoyed every minute of it.
