1970 VIN with a 1971 Cutlass front end. Likely the car was hit hard in the front at some time in the past. Careful inspection is warranted.

I missed that.

Let's see... 1971 front end... 1971 rear bumper and taillights... 1970 VIN... 1970 door mirrors.

Either someone went through a lot of trouble to turn this into a 1971, or I would inspect the VIN tag rivets VERY carefully...

I'm around, I just haven't been finding many Oldsmobiles so I have nothing to sell. LOL. But I'm on the hunt, looking for anything that can provide parts for others. How are you doing these days?

Not sure what is going on with this car. It has the burlwood on all of the inserts except the glove box door which is walnut, and then it has 1970 fenders. The 71 front and rear are the confusing part.

I'm doing OK but have been fighting an infected foot wound that's giving me hell.

Nice catch on the 1970 fenders. Those and the door mirrors tell me that the car really is a 70 and the grills and bumpers were changed. Who knows why something was done half a century ago. In 1964, the popular thing to do was to cut the rear window divider bar out of your 63 split window 'Vette so it looked newer.

A very optimistic price for a hardtop in need of a full restoration with incorrect hood/core support and bumpers.

Plus one that is, to put it honestly, a color combination that could only be described as Doo Doo Brown.

So?? It's commonly known that some 1971 cars were built with 1970 fenders till stock was used up.

More than that. I think the whole front clip was changed. 1970 grills won't fit into a 71 core support, and there's a significant difference in the headlight buckets and bezels between those years. The VIN will tell the story. Likely the Cowl tag will also validate the year, IF both of them are legitimate.

I just clicked the link and the car isn't there now.

This is one of those times you wish car fax was around. Looks like a straight car but would need documents to prove SX. My 72 had a 455 so if I put the SX on would that have satisfied a knowledgeable buyer. I doubt it. This one has been pieced together from different years. A decent looking car but until he proves SX who knows it.

I'd say its most likely an SX that over the years many owners (or one owner unfamiliar with differences in 70 through 72) has tried to keep in one piece. Clearly the glove box door was replaced with a newer version, the color doesn't even match let a lone the wood grain. But over all more right than wrong with the car and they are not asking a ton.

Its in better condition than most I found in the early nineties in Chicago when I was looking for an SX or a W30. Most owners had no idea what the SX even meant when I went to look at their car.

The car was sold. Now it's listed on the Huntsville Alabama Craigslist. And it's now $10,000
