Two pictures of the NADA and Hagerty price calculator but not one pic of the cowl tag or the supposed build sheet.

It's got a back seat full of kickers though....that will help sell it

What do you fussy bastards want for $180K.

Anyone ever seen a W-30 optioned Pace car that was NOT one of the two track cars?

Are the two track cars documented W30's or were they just 442's that were track prepared? I thought I read somewhere that they had F heads but that doesn't make them W30's.

I am a little in the dark on this too. I think some top shelf parts were used but don't recall if they had OW trans. I think those two had F heads & the Al intake. Pretty sure no red inners. Probably the best 308 cam too.

Others please chime in on the two track Y-74 442 pace cars.

Meanwhile back to this sellers BS....

A few stone chips around the 442 badge on the front, several dings on the beauty rings. Hmmm maybe he should have priced it a little higher, I guess he's giving it away @ 180k .

I need to apologize to my users because it looks like I have an issue with some code on my site to allow more then 20 images on an ad. (I'm working on a coding re-design but my free time is minimal now). He did post a picture of the build sheet. Sorry for it being sideways.

That isn't a build sheet, but a window sticker, and it's a reproduction at that.

In 1999 I worked on 70 pace car #2. The owner of #2 was able to contact the guy at Olds engineering who was in charge of building the two track cars. Both cars were identical except for tires (and VIN's of course). Both cars had OW transmissions. Both had special built 455's with F heads. Both used cast iron intakes. Both had 3.42 rear end ratios, and both had power disk brakes with station wagon rear drums. Both also had chrome valve covers , accessory brackets and oil fill tube.
FWIW, (and since I can't produce proof), a friend of mine who worked fairly high up at Olds told me that no 70 pace cars could be W-30's because of too much duplication of what was included in each package. The same theory could apply to the Rally 350 W-31 myth too I guess. ~BOB

Unless this guy can produce a pretty convincing build sheet, posting a reproduction window sticker and claiming this is a W30 is fraud

A convincing build sheet? From Lansing - home of the W30's? Not gonna happen.
I'd be happier with an original Bill of Sale or dealer ordering form showing this cars VIN.

That would definitely be a help. Honest though I think someone's been watching too many episodes of BJ to ask 180K.

The two track cars did not have Y-74 on the cowl tag. The condition is not all that great, no door decals, this must be someone's idea of a joke-a bad joke, it is April 1st today?

Are you all telling me that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway license plate holder is not proof enough.

To add to what carshine Bob said that both engines were painted black instead of the normal blue.

I do not believe the side door Indy 500 decals were applied at the factory. They were shipped in the trunk for the dealer or buyer to decide it they wanted to install them.

I personally like the '70 and '72 Cutlass/442 Pace Cars without the side Indy 500 decals, as they distract from the standard stripes and car lines.

Too bad they did not produce them so they could be easily removed and reapplied for display purposes.

What a relief to read this post. My dream has always been to someday own a 1970 Y74 pace car. A driver-quality 442 would be great, but even a Cutlass version would be fine. I about blew my drink on the screen when I saw the $180K price tag on another site. It's nice to know that might be a little high.

Any ad that has a "W-30" advertised as having a "2WD automatic transmission" is automatically suspect. Buyer beware, go for the 4WD version!

Here's photos of the car Indy gave to Parnelli Jones/Al Unser Sr. for winning the '70 race. Not one of the two real pace cars.
