1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SX Convertible

1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SX Convertible $40,000 USD now $29,000 91304

A pretty decent overall condition. They only made about 700 of these and I have never seen one of them in person ever. The car was in Lakewood California and Chula Vista California and here at my house in Woodland Hills California, since the 1970s. Decent red paint. White top and interior. Factory AC. Real deal high compression, 365 hp, 455 cubic inch Olds big block. THM 400 automatic. Dual exhaust. 442 rear bumper. Both bumpers are NOS. Correct 1 year only 14x7 grey colored wheels. Car runs and drives. Needs a battery and some TLC. Tires have zero miles on them.

Please NOTE This Phone is a Landline and ONLY HAS VM - It Does NOT Take Texts. does NOT HAVE caller ID. It is NOT a cell phone. 818-704- 0145 MARTY EM: martysgmjunk@yahoo.com

What's up with the center tooth emblem changing from the Cutlass Supreme emblem to a Cutlass S emblem?

Pretty rough for that price.
More pics of dash and console front seats?
Underneath? Looks like allot of rust.
Must have been by the coast with the salt water.
Cowl tag pic? How long has it been sitting?
Red engine paint, is that numbers matching engine and trans? Need lots more detail.

Yeah, I think it's supposed to be a rocket up front and magically changed to a Cutlass S? 1st pic shows no wheel well trim up front, but subsequent pic shows the trim. Same car? I'm thinking the pics are a mish-mash of different time periods. JMO.
NOM? Air cleaner says 69, as does the red engine paint. Doesn't mean anything if the numbers match. Do they?

How do you authenticate an SX? Is the only way a build sheet or dealer invoice? Is there a U in the VIN? Were SX's built in all plants? Just curious

There is no need to create an additional ad for the same car at different prices, just edit the original one.

You'll notice that the hood is from a Cutlass "S" and the hood tongue with the "S" emblem was probably brought to this car along with the hood.

It's difficult to authenticate an original SX car without some type of original documentation. There is no engine code in the vin, and yes, the SX cars were built at all factory plants.
You could also get a '70 Cutlass Supreme with a 455 without the Y79 SX option.
Try here for more info on these cars: www.sx455.com

The '70 convertibles are pretty rare and desirable - 793 made.

I’m a big fan of these cars, but the reality is that though they ARE essentially equal to a 344 vin car, they do not command the same money…. (Especially during a soft market). I’ve noticed a lot of quick red flags on this car that would need to be addressed. First is evidence of hidden corrosion. It has an incorrect hood, not just the tongue emblem. The color is all wrong, even for Rallye red or matadore red. The engine appears to be an early transplant, which if it is would further depreciate the 20% SX increase in value. Mismatched wheels. Not enough pictures, not enough details to merit the asking price. You should include pictures of the block stamping, trim tag, more interior shots, underside, notched valve covers. Was the car originally a four barrel? Educated buyers with the disposable income are going to want the information before even considering purchasing. In short, please provide more details and good luck with your sale.

Look closely. It is the same hood, same droop by the fenders, even the same tooth with the thin line of paint chippage on the passenger top area where the tooth meets the hood. Just changed the emblem likely after the hood came over back to a rocket, who knows? Again, a mish mash of pics. The photo of the rear has remnants of an outside mirror on it, other pics, it's all gone.

Edit: I do agree it's the wrong hood. But the rocket was a simple emblem change on that wrong hood. Probably figured it out after someone said something. Or knew it belonged there. Don't really know what happened there.

My suspicion is it's a real SX, but that's just a gut feeling. So few pics, and no paperwork to back it up. But the patina of the emblems matches the car well, so they've been there a long time. Not saying they couldn't have added them, but that wasn't usually a thing.

Besides all the usual items that make a C/S an SX looking for the big block fender brace bolt is usually the first thing I look for. The pics of this one just show a hole there.

True for hardtops, not found on convertibles.😀
