SOLD 1970 442 Convertible $48,999

***SOLD***
Located in Scottsdale, AZ
CL ad linked below for more pictures and details.
https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/cto/d/scottsdale-1970-oldsmobile-442/7437391057.html

496 C.I., TH400 auto trans with Hurst Dual Gate shifter. Power steering. Power brakes with disc's in front. A/C car (not currently hooked up)
True 442, VIN verifiable with 344 VIN. Lansing, Michigan built car. Arizona and California car it's whole life. I am owner #5, although owner #2 was very brief. Originally purchased in AZ. Moved to Cali in late 70's or early 80's. Owner #4 purchased in 2004 and moved to AZ in 2009. I purchase in 2011. Service and upgrade documentation book all the way back to 1983.
Top replaced by PO with high quality vinyl and real back glass, not plastic. Original bucket seat interior. Engine replaced in 1993. Original aspen green car, repainted in 1994 with Cadillac's Basil Firemist Green. Rare and beautiful color. (Hard to capture pearlescent beauty in pictures) Paint still looks amazing nearly 30 years later, with only a few minor flaws acquired in that time. 455 big block is now 496 cubic inches. Engine and drive train specs detailed below. From the sound of the big Olds engine, beautiful color, and being a convertible classic, this car turns heads everywhere. On the 1 to 5 car scale, this one rates as a 3+/2-. Best description would likely be restomod, as the car is not being represented as 100% original. Tasteful improvements and upgrades have been performed, and are stated below.

Bored and stroked to 496 c.i. using Eagle balanced rotating assembly.
Machine work performed by Duffee Motorsports
Torque plate used to bore and hone cylinders
Mahle pistons with custom grind rings
Full hydraulic roller setup (lifters/rockers/cam)
Oil return at front of block clearanced for better return.
HV oil pump
Custom length oil restricted push rods
Olds C heads with oversized intake and exhaust valves, and port matched intake ports.
Edlebrock RPM Air Gap Intake Machined to match heads and block fitment.
Dick Miller Racing Main Girdle
ARP main studs and head studs
Offenhauser tall Machined aluminum valve covers
Dual diaphragm brake booster to clear VC's
Plastigauge used to verify all specs during assembly.
DMR custom grind Comp Cam spec'd for car
RobbMC high torque mini starter
RobbMC high volume fuel pump
Quick Fuel 750 Holley style carb (could go bigger)
MSD 6al electronic ignition
Hooker Headers mated to full 3 inch mandrel bent, true dual exhaust from Pypes with matching trumpet tips.
Vibe Lock Header Bolts and Seal-4-Good gaskets for trouble free headers.
Magna flow mufflers.
DMH electronic cutouts (open headers on the fly and sounds absolutely incredible)
New engine harness and front light harness
4 core radiator for increased cooling
Original Turbo 400 auto Trans rebuilt with HD kit.
Hughes Performance 2600 stall torque converter.
Hurst Dualgate (his and hers) shifter.
B&M aluminum transmission pan.
Driveshaft rebuilt and balanced.
Chevy 12 bolt Posi rear end with 3.73 gears
T/A Performance differential girdle cover.
Fresh front-end rebuild with all new components.
Quick ratio steering box (huge improvement)
Drag bags (air lift) in rear springs for adjustable height and improved ride quality/performance.
KYB Gas Adjust shocks all around.
15" SSI style wheels with BFG Radial T/A's.
Original 14" SSI wheels (all 5) will be included with sale, along with original A/C compressor and brackets, hoses.

The car runs like a beast and handles like a dream (as any 442 should).

I love this car and the next owner will too. Only reason for selling is I no longer have long term storage for it. I sold my home and will be leaving soon to travel full-time in my RV, so unfortunately some the "extra's" must go.
Rust free.
Clean and clear title in hand.

Car is currently stored in Scottsdale near the Scottsdale Air Park. Very close to Barrett-Jackson and many of the other auctions in town. Easy to stop by for viewing. I will be nearby and happy to meet for viewing and inspection.

Give me a call at 6zero2-6one7-6five49
Chris

I should also mention, at time of machining, I was unsure if I was keeping the auto trans or changing to manual, so the shop machined in the pilot hole for a manual transmission swap. Easy swap now if desired.

For me. The fact that it carry's it's original color. No Hood. No F ing wing. No lame *** W stripes. Makes me like it more. I am so over every freaking Olds having the hood and towel rack. I would take a steel hood stripper 442 over all of this over played trying to get a dollar Cutlass err.. 442 trend Any Day.

My 70 SX when I was a young buck was Aspen Green. Damn I made money with that car.

50k?
Could you build it for that? That's always my price point. 50 is nothing these days. 442 ragtop? 70?

Thank you very much for the comments and input. I've never sold a car like this, (never thought I'd sell this one), or sold anything on the internet, so this is a new process for me. I hope I'm representing the car well enough here. I did have a glass hood for it at one point, but decided to keep that original. And I do agree with you that this car could not be built for $50k today. Hoping to come across the right person who realizes and appreciates that, and wants to enjoy owning it!

Your advice is well received. I may have to work something out to take care of the few outstanding items on the car. I just dont have a location to do so anymore. Hoping someone can look past those things and be willing to take care of that themselves while getting a good deal on a great car, although I realize that isn't always the case.
Thank you

How is that crankcase getting fresh air? Looks like two pcv valves sucking oil to a external separator.

No PCV valves in the covers, just straight to the seperator. Early on I dealt with an over oiling issue to the top end with the hp pump, separator was first attempt to rectify the issue. Ultimately I ended up installing restricted push rods and that solved the problem. Never reversed the separator setup as it caused no issues. Good eye by the way!

Well good on you for figuring out a realistic solution for the problem. Thumbs up!

Yes, we are quite aware of your distaste for those items as you have been very vocal about it for years. Your pejorative terms have also been used on many occasions. Thank you for your input

I will never apologize for my opinion. I appreciate true non bullshit cars. Hate me for that. I come from an area that appreciates real cars. Not over restored cars. I don't give a 💩

I personally appreciate the support.... it's a damn good car and I want the next owner to love it as much as I do.

It clearly states in the first post the car was "sold".
