1970 1 owner post 442, 30k (not.mine)
came across this clean looking and unique one owner car. A post car has A/C, rally pac, dual gate and power windows..
Hub caps …were those even an option?
looked like a fun car needing some clean up.

It is set up for hand control, has handicap sticker on rear bumper.
looks like original paint with the Y73 stripes.
really looks like a true survivor. Clean up engine bay and buff paint…put that dash chrome back in place hehe…
a true sleeper with those hubcaps.

I've been talking to the owner about the car as i have some interest in getting this 442 back on the road and joining my 69. They are asking $30k, is that too much? What would be a reasonable offer? Its got the wrong rear bumper, some hand controls id have to remove, and paint is dinged up by the drivers door sill from PO wheelchair. I've attached a copy of the cowl data plate. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Pictures before it goes away. What a sleeper. Hand controls are not tough to add or remove.
Gauges tilt ac and a dual gate. Needs some tlc but looks solid from here. 30k seems a little high but what do I know.

it appears to be all there( I thought they had the original bumper to go with it). If it is all matching numbers and a rust free machine, I would go 22-25k for a real 442. Swap in a factory steering wheel and some new wheels and it would look entirely different.
I see unrestored super clean cutlass go for upper teens and restored ones are 20-25( unless at dealer), and several of those are bench seat cars( that’s 2k plus to convert to buckets)
motor has been rebuilt, trans are cheap to go through, and a rear end probably 1000-1500 for full overhaul.
consider the paint work on the door, can you live with it or will it need redoing. Can it be blended or need more work.
I don’t think you would go upside down on it as it would not take much to make it a solid 35-40k car.
just some thoughts, really glad to see you considering it, it needs an olds lover to get it on the road again.
the blue with black buckets is a nice combo.

For ref, here is a white post car for sale at dealer in IA.(asking 57k for fully restored)
I think with just a wheel swap it goes from sleeper to really sharp. I love this look.
same stripe package. Of course I am a sucker for white ones…

So I've been talking with the seller pretty regularly the past 4-5 days, trying to get as much background about the car as I can without being able to see it right now. Car was her brother in law's who passed (he was the only/original owner). Per her (and others) memory, it's Fremont car who the owner bought and drove to Michigan, been stored inside garage for the majority of the time, engine rebuilt, looks like it was bored over (.030), new cam, not sure what else. As far as they know, engine and trans are original, paint was re-done quite some time ago, she said not the same color but it looks really close to the factory Astro Blue Metallic that the car came with. She still has original steering wheel and rear bumper that will come with the car as well as paperwork (not sure what that all entails). I'm not overly concerned with the paint by the door sill, the body looks good and my main priority would be to get it back on the road and drive her. Seller seems pretty firm on price, not much wiggle room.

Not technically the owner, gave the seller a deposit to hold it. I'm heading up there weekend after next to look it over make sure there's no surprises. Assuming everything checks out I'll be bringing her back home, cleaning her up, and getting her back on the road.
On a side note, gotta make room in the garage (and I realized I much rather prefer Olds muscle) I'm moving on from my 69 Mach 1, if anyone's interested let me know.

I hope everything goes well also. If/when it comes home with me I'll be sure to post some pics and provide some details.
She has the original rear bumper with her in California. Any thoughts on how much it would be to ship it from California to Virginia? Would it be worth it or could I pick up one in good shape at Nationals?

NoVa, well, I'm sorry that you did not get the car, but my buddy bought it. His wife just called to let me know. His son also saw it, and told him about it. They went up in person to check it out. About 3 hours north of here in Michigan. The bumper will be coming from California.

If there was a deposit on it, then that would be pretty shitty to go and not honor the deposit. Isn't that what they're for? Kind of like earnest money? WTF? Or did we miss an update that you changed your mind? Best be able to get the deposit back.

Amen. If deposit was put down then that is BS. That's the thing with cars etc. If you don't jump chances go down. That sucks

@1969w3155 glad to hear that someone from the board knows the guy who picked it up.
@69HO43 and @no1oldsfan Everything was legit, I did put a deposit down, but over the weekend "life" events happened and purchasing the vehicle was no longer feasible. It sucks, I had already booked my flight up there to check it out, but what can you do. I'm glad to see that someone on here knows the individual that picked it up and hopefully it's going to a good home.

Everything is good now, and glad it looks as if it's going to a loving home.

NoVa, my buddy had no idea that a deposit was on it. He does not have a FB account, nor is he on here, though I have tried to get him on here many times. He will bring the car up to snuff, and correct anything that is wrong with the car. He is an Olds guy, who currently has a '68 442 Turnpike cruiser and a '70 442 four speed which is being restored. He loves these cars. His son spotted it on FB Marketplace, and told him about it, they thought at first that it might be a scam as the seller is in Cal. and the car is here. He son made the initial call, then my buddy contacted her, and she explained what the deal was, and the background of the original owner. He and his wife went up yesterday 8/8, had a good looking over and made an offer. he is not the kind of person who would knowingly jump in on a deal that was already in progress. I have known him for 50 years, that isn't his nature.

@1969w3155 Yeah, no worries, everything was kosher with him looking into/buying the car. I talked to the lady Friday/Saturday about passing on buying the car due to unforeseen "personal" circumstances and I'm assuming she started taking calls again on the car which is perfectly fine. She refunded my deposit, just sucks that I had already booked my flight, so now i got some southwest credit for a future trip somewhere. I'm glad an Olds enthusiast picked it up and is gonna get it back on the road.

@%#$&….wow what happened. On vacation and wanted to see what’s happening with all the cool cars for sale.
Dang sorry to here of issues NoVa….I was excited just being part of the journey on here..hehe.
when I went to look at mine up by Flint, I booked air into Detroit and car rental from there….I added the trip insurance for $20…didn’t need it thankfully.
I did have to cnx a trip into Chicago when going to look at a 69 442, used the insurance and all was good, everything was refunded.
I hope the new owner gets on here, would like some details on that car, looked like a really nice driver.

Went and saw the car this afternoon. My buddy picked it up Tues. 8/24. Rented a U haul truck and trailer ($200.00 plus gas). This is a very solid and clean car, the paint shines very well for it's age, it does not need buffing or wax. It is an Emron paint job, very close to Astro Blue, just slightly lighter, and you would probably only notice it if it were beside an actual Astro Blue car. He already put the orignal steering wheel back on, and the correct shifter ball to replace the Hurst T handle. He has a new exhaust system from the Parts Place (only took three days to get it), which he willl install himself. The a/c needs a charge, which means a leak somewhere in the system. He realy can't lean on it, so a carb re build is in the near future, and the rear bumper is on the way from Cali. I really like this car, basically a turn key car. I was impressed by it's condition.
