1969 Cutlass Convertible - San Antonio TX

I'm putting this out there to gauge any interest in someone interested in purchasing the car in Texas, rather than the expense of transporting it back to California to sell it here. Car is located near San Antonio in a barn at a cattle ranch in a cute little town called Poteet, TX. Its been stored there since 1992 at a friend's dad's ranch. I don't have pictures of it, but here's what I remember. And i don't even know the current condition of it because it's been sitting so long. When I fly to Texas I will try to get it running whether I sell it in Texas or transport it back to California. I recently sold another 69 Cutlass convertible and have three potential California "buyers" waiting until I ship the car back.

Here's what I remember.

-Clear Texas title in my name in my hands......M in VIN, so a Michigan made car, bought from the original owner in Denton, TX
-Car was last started in 1992
-Original color (repainted) is Glade Green
-Bench seat Column shift
-Original 350 has been swapped out for a 78 403 from a Pontiac station wagon (reportedly one of the greater possibilities of being a solid main web motor - not verified), original Turbo 350 Tranny
-If I remember correctly, Non-AC car, only options power steering and front drum brakes.....Low optioned car so probably no rally pack or am/fm radio or anything like that....basic car
-Tires I'm sure are shredded, but will be replaced with cheap Walmart roller tires
-Body probably has rust on the bottom fender heals, but from what i remember the lower rear quarters have sheet metal work done, though I'm sure the car has minimal rust and the frame and not all flaky and solid
-Most likely a 2.56 open Type O rear end
-I can't find the keys so I will have to take the steering column apart
-Car should be complete with bumpers, interior, quarter moldings, etc.

So the bottom line is I won't know exact particulars until I fly from California to TX, running, not running etc. But it should be a mostly solid (non Rust Belt) candidate for restoration. I plan to fly to see the car sometime in March, so I'm just gauging interest....Either way I'm putting the car up for sale, it'd just be easier/cheaper to sell it in Texas.

If interested please text me at 661-203-6953. Asking around $8500 or less, depending on condition and how it runs. If I can sell it in Texas also I can cut out the shipping expense to California (more flexible price). I won't have any pictures until I get to Texas in March.

Thanks for looking at my ad.

FYI, there are no SMW 403 blocks.

For the keys, the door locks use the same key as the ignition, so maybe you can remove a door lock cylinder and have a locksmith make a key from it?

Thanks FUN71.....Yeah I was thinking that about the keys.......I parted out 57 cars and have a whole coffee can full of keys I was going to try.....also have titles, VIN's, body tags, etc. if someone has an untitled car.

One way or the other, I'll get it working. Thanks again for the helpful info. Dave

Ken, you may be surprised how many times this has worked, for me anyhow. I have my own coffee can full of GM keys as well.

Thanks for the confidence, I will get it running, I'm too good of a mechanic not to. The problem is: Imagine this:

I'm flying in with a few limited tools.....have to buy a cheap floor jack, battery, tires, gas can, hoses etc.
It's in a barn that is only 2 feet wider than the car.......and I've been warned about rattle snakes underneath the car possibly
I'm renting a car and living out of a hotel, have to call a tow truck to tow it to storage, arrange to be there with the shipping company.....a lot of logistics
But I promised my friend I would get it out after 34 years
I'll get it running, would just be easier/cheaper if I had a Texas buyer
LOL, this will be an experience

WOW, what a big hassle for you. Do you think you could pay a broker or someone to handle the whole thing? Maybe even get someone here on Classic Olds who lives close to it and pay them-( it might be a fun thing to do for a Olds guy)
