Pretty rare rim blow faux wood steering wheel... according to the paperwork photo!

But seriously, nice car, would you mind sharing a pic of the Protecto-Plate in close up detail... assuming it is the plate for this car... hell, even if it isn't I'd like to add that to the posterity photo collection.

Beautiful car

What's the "Placed in Service" date mean on the Protectoplate?

Could mean the vehicle was used as a demo prior to retail sale, or could just mean that's where the original in-service date was written .

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if the paint was still wet when the owner took delivery. The cowl tag is 11B or 11D and the PoP date is 11/17/67. If it's 11B I can't figure out what it means. If it's 11D the owner must have driven the car off the assembly line.

Kool Car.

It's a for sale thread....but just to clarify?

A = Wednesday the 1st November 1967
B= Monday 6th
C= Monday 13th

So if the body was scheduled to be finished on the second week of November / B, it would be possible that it was sold on Friday the 17th.

I believe the paperwork to be real. I think this must be a benchmark car for the minimum amount of time from body construction to sale. People usually throw out 1-3 weeks for the body build date to be ahead of the
assembly for a Lansing car. For the car to have been sold 11/17 I would think it would have had to have been a special order car sold locally. I can't read the address on the PoP but I'd assume it was fairly local to Lansing.

Again, not "special order", simply built-to-order (ie, pre-sold) vs. built for the dealer to put on the lot (ie, spec-built). The "sale" for a built-to-order car would have happened long before the car was assembled. Don't know if "placed in service" is the date the pre-sold car was actually delivered to the buyer or the date it was finished at the factory.

I do not know for sure, but to me it seems a Placed in Service date would be the day it became available to the first owner for continuous use, and therefore the warranty period officially begins.

fortunately/unfortunately For Sale threads (for the best of the best) often become information discussions concerning the minutia of the hobby & draw interest for both reasons

The comments/discussion about the “production date” ofthis 1968 W30 442 differ from my understanding of what the build date info stampedon a body tag represents.

11A, 11B, 11C, 11D, 11E – what week/days of November ’67 doeach of these represent?
Sunday thru Saturday calendar week (changing every month):
November 1967
A = 1st – 4th
B = 5th – 11th
C = 12th – 18th
D = 19th – 25th
E = 26th – end of month
or
a 7 day week (consistent every month):
A = 1st – 7th
B = 8th – 14th
C = 15th – 21st
D = 22nd – 28th
E = 29th – end of month
I believe it is the latter, or is it something different?

If the dates represented Sunday thru Saturday calendarweeks starting on the first of each month,
1968 model year:
09A, 12A, 03A –would be one day “weeks” (Friday)
06A – would be a zero day “week” (Saturday only) thereare plenty of 06A Oldsmobiles including a number of H/Os

The reason “E” week cars are so few & far between –so few possible work days fall on those days in a given work month/year (29th/30th/31stonly).

This particular 442 could’ve easily been built during 11B(8th – 14th), delivered to Milwaukee, WI (320 miles fromLansing, MI) and the customer taking delivery on Thursday the 16th (2day minimum/8 day maximum).What wasOldsmobile’s policy regarding owner pick-up/drive-away at the plant, circa November1967?

My former “provincial white” 1968 W-30 442 was also an11B car – its VIN sequence is ~1,100 units before this “scarlet” car, but itsbody sequence number is ~1,500 units after. By my calculations: Lansing averaged assemblyof ~1,000 Oldsmobile a-bodies per day.Ballpark:“scarlet” car built first by 2 calendar days.

It is also my understanding that the build at Fisher Body Lansing was closelyfollowed by final build at LansingAssembly (or what their proper names were?).Since the a-bodies had little “shipping”between the two, the final build began hours not days after the body’s completion.

How many shifts,built/assembled cars at Lansing?
How many shiftsdid it take to complete a car, from its start at Fisher Body to a running carready for delivery?

1968 model year at Lansing accounted for 380,000+cars.A normal full production week’sworth of builds at Lansing would consist of ~7,500 cars, and occupy 33 acres ofreal estate if parked door to door with no aisles, 3 week’s 100 acres.The place was massive, but I don’t believethere was room for that number of cars in process on-site.

Just to add my 2 cents... this car is absolutely beautiful. Love the color, options, and it sounds mean too. If I didn't have the H/O project already, I'd be all over it.

Good luck with the sale, surprised nobody has jumped on it yet.

X2

Documented 68 or 69 W cars are non existent (except Canadian cars). This car will be pushing six figures in a few years. Undocumented ones sell for $35k already

Im surprised its still around as well. Its documented with the original protecto plate booklet and steel card still attached in it. I would think there are many verifiable cars out there, nevermind an original Red 4 speed car in this kind of condition. Lots of interest but no real reasonable offers. Hate to say it but if this was a chevelle it would be long gone at this price.

... not according to your sig line...

I just viewed the video, NICE car.

Thank you for letting the car speak for itself, rather than music or commentary.

in the video, we hear the car, not a seller reciting the attributes [often with inaccuracies when the seller is a dealer - flipper].... or some music that seemed like a good choice at the time to the videographer but not so much to all of the audience.

The video is about the vehicle, so to actually hear the sounds the vehicle makes is music enough for me.
