Something I always wonder about, since in any state that I know of, the legal owner can get a duplicate title issued, usually for a nominal fee (here in VA it was $5 last time I did it).

In Oregon a tow company can get a lien title after it's in their yard for 30 days. So with a little effort maybe it could be saved.

Tony, you mentioned it was a California car, where is it located now? John

Well, again, most states have a process for a lien sale also. I've used them in CA and VA to get titles.
