1966 oldsmobile 98 425ci rare
#6
1. 1963 Starfire coupe (that beautiful metallic bronze) Bad-assed car. My parents used to "steal" it when grandma and grandpa went out of town! :-)
2. 1966 Ninety Eight LS just like this one but white with a black top. (I absolutely loved this car. I cried when they traded it in on the 1972 below)
3. 1968 Delmont 88 coupe-455 Medium metallic blue (I got to pick it out on the showroom floor at Findlay Olds, I was five) My mom used to drag race this one when she would borrow it from the grands.
4.1972 Ninety Eight LS that odd tannish color that looked slightly green. Was very popular in 71-72 (this car is when I discovered what a 4 barrel carburetor was) This was the car I learned to drive in at 12 years old.
5.1973 Delta 88 coupe in baby **** orange (should have been my first car but grandpa wasn't thinking (sold it a month before my 16th birthday and bough the 79 below), so my first car was a blue 1966 D-88 coupe that overheated chronically in the LV heat
6. 1977 Ninety Eight LS in Buckskin and no vinyl top. This car was over 23 years old when grandpa died. I went home to Vegas to help my mom clean out their house (they lived on Easy Street, no kidding) I had a hitch put on it and brought their mid-century modern living room home to Texas behind that car in the biggest U-haul trailer that they would let me pull.
7. 1979 Delta 88 Royal in "Pistachio" Grandpa sold this one when grandma died in 1995. The 1977 had been sitting in the garage under a cover for years so he brought that one out and drove it for the rest of his life.
The last two were their last Oldsmobiles. Wow I 've never written down their entire Oldsmobile history before. They drove De Soto before and never really figured out how they made the jump to Oldsmobile instead of Chysler when they quit making De Soto's but I'm sure glad they did. Was fun growing up with these wonderful cars.
PS, sorry for the long history story..Couldn't stop once I got going!
Between this group, and the Oldsmobile FB page and the Starfire FB page, I've got rocket fever again. The Mustang GT convertible is going to get sold so I can get my "bucket list" car. Narrowed it down to a 1965 Starfire..Can't wait to start looking!
