Anyone recognize the engine?

 

Recognize, as in: "Hey, I saw that engine in my buddy's car back in high school!"?

Or recognize as in "Do you know what kind of engine that is?"

It's a Buick Fireball 225 V6.

The Buford V6 was the base engine in the F-85s for 1964-65. A Turbo Buick bolts in. A Series I 3800 SC also bolts in.

 

Didn't know you could get head rest in '65..

 

You couldn't, which is why that was discussed in the OTHER thread about this same car. Those are not the correct seats. FYI, 1966 was the first year for factory optional headrests.

 

Thanks Joe, the seats look correct for a f85, different from the Cutlass, the shape of head rest is unusual.

Is that Buick Fireball rare? Valuable?

Could it have been bolted to a 3 or 4 speed?

 

Rare? Well, not common but not really rare.
Valuable? Not so much.

The base trans was a column shift three speed Saginaw. My father bought a 1965 F-85 post coupe brand new with that combo. In 1964 you could get the F-85 V6 Sport Coupe with the V6 and floor shift manual trans.
