1964F85 with 455/400 combo

Hi, I am regretfully posting my car for sale, due to several unfortunate events. The car is a 1964 F85 4 door sedan, with less than 100,000 actual miles. It started life with a 330 and jetaway trans, but has since been switched over to a Mondello loaded 468/TH400 combo. The rear was also upgraded to a pontiac 3.36 GTO posi rear. The whole car is covered in the "project builds" section of this site. [1964 F85 Resto-Mod] There are loads of pictures which will let you see all of the car, inside and out. I can supply further technical information if you have any questions. The 455 and TH400 has just less than 1000 miles on it and runs strong. I'm asking 3500 for the car, which included a set of Hooker headers, which I never got around to installing. The only rust is a little behind the pass rear tire and a small patch on the other side, same place, behind the wheel... floors, etc. are solid. The trunk floor has been patched up and the frame mount, above the rear end on the drivers side needs some attention.. other than that stuff, the car is a solid driver. 15" Olds ralleys and good rubber..

Keep in mind a Summit "454HO" GM goodwrench long block engine which is only rated to 425 HP , sells for a cool 6000 dollars. This motor has all upgraded heavy duty/Mondello parts in it.. aftermarket crank, rods, forged pistons, etc... The trans has just over 1000 in it as well.. [HD parts, 2800RPM stall, cooler, etc..]

Alot of car for the money... a handy guy could install coupe doors and move back the B pillar... or leave it be for the ultimate stealth bomber.. [This motor and trans combo ran a 12.2 in a late 70's Cad. Seville with 3.42's...] Or you could grab the sweet front clip and other interchangeable bits to finish off your coupe body... then transfer over the driveline.. the choice is yours... I am located in zip code 17402, York PA. The car is currently inspected and tagged. It should go just about anywhere, but it may be best to haul it home if you live a long distance away, just to be sure. It works fine here locally, but I never really took it for a real long distance drive. Any questions should be sent to my email; judderman65@hotmail.com

Due to the overwhelming flood of interest, and emails... [NOT] ... I'm going to look into posting the car for sale on EBay.. I'm sure the economy has something to do with this...

Yes, it bites the BIG one.. trust me... I have looming overinflated school taxes [or serious trouble..] to cover in my case. I'll be trying out EBay for the first time... never did it before and really heard several horror stories from friends who bought or sold there. I'd much rather sell to a real enthusiast/local person... It's a real shame as the car is solid, but I'm sure it will end up as an organ donor for it's sweet front clip, for someones "real" car [a 2 door...**LOL**], as well as the rest of the powertrain.

Four doors get a bad rap, but this body looks real sharp as such, to me anyway. Take a look at Car Crafts "project".. they got 3500 in it already, along with the 455 alu. headed "build" motor they just had "laying around"... Unrealistic, at best.. reminds me of "monster garage's" BS.. "zero, zip, zilch...nada" -type crap] My price is better than theirs and the car is likely faster... oh well.. it's amazes me how much people let the second set of doors scare them off... Aussies and Europeans alike don't let it bother them.. GT-HO Falcon 351... or cars like BMW, Audi, Lexus... etc. are examples of 4 doors that run.

Anyway, rant over.. I'll looking for early next week to get it posted. I've checked on a few other 64's listed and the prices are not good at all.. we'll see.. hope I'm not throwing more money away on the listing..

Cheers,Mike

Hey Mike

Yep they do get a bad rap. But it is what it is. Did you ever get it running and driving? I bet its wicked with that 468. I had a 468 Olds in mine and with a crappy trans and 3.08 gear i ran a 12.54 with it. LOL Well you could always do what i did. I puled my 468 and put in a 330. That way i save the 468 for the "hotrod" project.

From real world experience a 4-door body in pretty clean condition is a $500-700.00 car
The motor and performance parts might bring 40 cents on the dollar if they are desirable parts.

But then again, in the used car business, they say:

There's an A$$ for every seat!!

But that was during a good econony, too!!

Yes, I got the car running, driving, insured, inspected.. etc. And .. it is very nasty around 2500-3000 rpm on up... but it's really on the ragged edge of just being too much for normal street driving. I guess to make it so would mean going with a smaller cam.. maybe 1500-5500 type, and a lower stall converter.. like maybe a turbo 350 stock converter to give just a bit more.. [perhaps 500 rpm over a stock 400 converter ... done this before and it works great]. But, that would also "take away" from it's "nastiness", thus reducing it's "value" further.. so no matter which route I take, I'm gonna lose my a$$, as usual.

However this means more money spent, more wasted time.. but be much more streetable... [then there is pushrod compatibility with the roller rockers with a smaller cam...and the potential to have to buy more part$ to get them all to play together nice... and I'm all out of money..] decisions, decisions.. I guess if it does not sell on EBay, then I may consider keeping it till the right "buyer" comes along.. and "has to have it".. then MAYBE I'd get a "better" price.. however my rock bottom is 2800..

I could sell the drivetrain "still in the car" so the buyer can see and hear it run.. then yank it out and junk the body.. scrap is 11 dollars a hundred here.. but then, that sucks in it's own special way too.. lots of work, for ultimately less money..

We'll see how it goes on EBay..

Cheers, Mike

Happy thanksgiving...

P.S. Se Habla "Gobbla" ... [I speak turkey.. the only "Se Habla" I do .. **LOL**]

Well, I'm back from the mountains... Did some thinking and watched 2 lane blacktop up there.. Had a few thoughts.. Since I can't sell the car, for the more than the fair asking price.. I thought about painting it epoxy primer black and adding steel wheels for a "rat rod" look everyone seems to like.. or adding a set of slots and jack it up and go for the "gasser" look, another thing people are seeming to go for these days.. thoughts? Primer and steel wheels are cheaper than losing my a$$ on the whole car... it's paid for and is really eating nothing. I'm no longer in a "must sell" desperate situation.. ideas? Cheers, Mike

Set it up for drag racing. you dont see many fast 4dr cars. I bet if you set it up right you might get down into the 11s But whatever you do shop for deals and dont dump to much money into it.

I am considering adding a 750 or 780 holley to it... the cam is just too radical for the QJet.. also considering adding black epoxy primer job to it.. then the price will be adjusted accordingly..

The primer might give it enough eyeball to find a buyer but it does not add anything to the value.

Whats up with you and 4 doors?

But your right. It wont really help much in the price. But would be alot easier to sell.

Not so much latley but I have always bought and sold project cars to feed my car habit. I have nothing against 4 doors but I also have a pretty good handle on what cars will bring in the real world.
