Futuramatic??? Your'e joking right? 1949 was the first year for the modern over head valve V8 and it was a Futuramatic with the new "Rocket Engine" hense Future. As far as the matic. It's because of the Hydramatic transmission. So 1950 was the second year of the Olds Rocket and the 88 was the mid level Olds with the 98 being the top and the 76 (six cylinder) the bottom. You really should brush up on your Olds history.

sp?

I've never heard of a "Futuramatic"... Unless I'm missing a joke or something, I believe we are talking about a Craigslist spelling error.

The word on the trim for a 50 Olds is "Futuramic". I'm waiting for someone to respond to this thread...April Fool!

Rockettruck...

Wow! 76, 88, 98 ... I didn't know R.E. Olds was such an elitist

Anyway, I DO appreciate the Olds history AND
I do still extend the offer to check it out for someone if requested....

Yes, the term is "Futuramic"

It started in 1948 and was a catch phrase.

"FUTURAMATIC" = Hydramatic?

I am sure the guy means Hydramatic; see the shift indicator on the steering column. He doesn't say if the Hydramatic works. BTW, notice the steering wheel is cracked.

BTW, I agree Futuramic was a marketing gimic for 1948-50 but I think it only applied to 98's in 1948.

Thanks.

Hi.

There are a couple of Olds Futuramatic sold in Sweden. The name of the car is written on the trimming? on the front fenders.
Olds was a popular car in Sweden after the war(and before)

Hi again.

Sorry, i was wrong. It's more than 50 years ago since I saw an Futuramic. The "Futuramic" is as the photo shows, written on the backdoor trimming, but I believe it was somewhere in the front to.
What's behind the name? Think about GM's Futureliners, war is over and there's a bright future to come. As Tom T Hall sings, "Back when gas was thirty cents a gallon"
