71 window felt chrome

So I have the car apart for paint and decided to give the bright work some time on the buffing wheel. I hit the piece that goes along the top of the door with the sisal wheel to get some scratches worked out, and notice what looked like some kind of clear coat coming off. Since these have never been off the car my question is, did GM put some kind of clear on those pieces or?? Trying to decide a way forward since the "clear coat" doesn't seem to come off very easy.

Are you referring to the B85 Belt Line molding that the outer window sweeps attach to?

They are anodized aluminum, not stainless steel.

Two choices:

1. Have them stripped and re-anodized

-or-

2. Have them stripped and polished (which will need to be done occasionally)

so any suggestions on how or where to send for re-anodizing? Can this be done at home with a kit from Eastwoods or someone similar?

Anodizing is an electrochemical process. You aren't going to do it at home. If you Google aluminum trim anodizing, you will find vendors. Don't expect it to be cheap.

P/N CK70SR. Unfortunately, per their website, it's just the rubber, not the anodized molding:

This kit supplies the sweepers only for cars with the molding option.

thanks folks! I have found a couple anodizing companies locally, I'll contact after the holiday and see what the damage is going to be!

Been a while, but had the anodizing removed and a company in OKC chrome plated them for me. They look really good! Wasn't cheap but neither is replacement pieces!
