2002 Bravada

I have a 2002 Olds Bravada I bought during cold weather. The ac works good sitting in driveway but the second I put it in gear it blows the ac fuse. Not sure where to start looking for the problem. What is so strange about it is the ac works good till put in gear,so I unplugged the compressor itself ,turned ac on put in gear and it didn't shoot the fuse, plugged the compressor back up and it works fine till its put in gear.I thought the compressor was bad at first but don't understand why it only does it when I put in gear.
Any suggestions?

Need to get a look at that circuit and see what else is on the AC circuit. Could be anything from the neutral lock out or what ever they call the circuit that requires you to step on the brake to shift. Or somethings chafed and rubbing on something so when theirs drive train movement it shorts. Trace the shifter linkage and look for wires rubbing on it either under the dash or down by the trans.
You should try to find a good chassis wire diagram/schematic and start running through the systems starting with the AC compressor and clutch. Dealers will have these diagrams. Sometimes they will allow you to check them out at least they used to. See what else is on that fused circuit. Start disconnecting one device at a time until the fuse stops blowing. Anything else acting funny? All the lights work including brake lights? Not being familiar with this vehicle I can only offer general electrical TB Shooting. Find it hard to believe anything light duty like lights would be in series or parallel with the AC system. Which would lead me to think somethings chafed and going to ground.

Thanks I think I'm going to start with the wiring going to the rear heat and air since its at the rear of the console.

My daily driver is a 2002 Bravada. The best internet forum I've found is GMTnation.com. Post your question there for best results. ~BOB

Your same question with a little more detail here was posted on Oldsmobile forums about two weeks ago? Have you done the diagnostics like I proposed over there?

I still believe you have wire that is chaffed! I had an S-10 that would blow fuses to the A/C. Wire harness was shorting due to a mis-routed harness.

Well I bought more fuses and a circuit breaker today.Plugged in the circuit breaker and it shot first thing, moved all the wires, didn't see anything, pulled the box from the console moved all the wires didn't see anything, moved the shifter back and forth several times .Started it turned on the ac worked good, put it in gear ac still worked ,went out moved wires again, drove up the road and back ac working good.I guess it will do it again sometime but for now its working. Thanks for all the info.
