1970 Cutlass S front brake line clip won’t fit

Left side I believe the clip is in the right position

Autozone supplied

Left side with clip inverted which I believe is wrong

Passenger side

Passenger side
Hello everyone, been working on my front brakes and noticed a leak so went to replace the lines and either side fits with the clip. See the pictures below. I purchased the lines from AutoZone.

First pic shows correct orientation of the clip.

I assume this is a drum brake car....based on the style of brake hose frame BRACKET you show in your pics.

Isn't there a flat (or hex) on the hose coupling that keys it to the bracket? Looks like you need to get those aligned so that the coupling sticks up further in the bracket to allow the clip to slide into the slot on the coupling.

What he said...the metal collar on the hose should be a odd shape that "keys/fits into" the bracket. Once oriented correctly the hose will slip into the bracket far enough to allow the horseshoe clip to properly engage the "slot" around the metal hose collar.

I asked about drum b/c the disc brake hose frame brackets are different from what you show in your pics.

I was thinking it looked keyed at the top where it fits to the bracket. This car was 4 drum setup, but is being upgraded to front disc brakes. It came to me with different lines from Earl's brake line and they developed a leak so I was just trying to replace them and could not find them onlne. I am going to go back and try to find them possible or look for the different bracket you speak of. Thanks for the information, and if you know more where I can get those brackets let me know. Also, these lines are only 12" long and appear to be short for the turning radius of the front wheels. I am going to investigate new lines for Earl's.

The original (and repro from The Parts Place shown above) disc brake front brackets have two layers of metal...so they are thicker than the drum brake brackets. Look closely at the pic.

I will take another look. The brakes I have are thick and dont have the exact locking hole as I rotated the new brake in and around and it would never line up. Really just need to find Earls. Gonna check with Summit.
