4 piston disc brakes, A-body & B-body
Hi All
I've been digging through my parts stash of brake parts and came up with something I didn't expect. It appears the 1967 Olds 88 & 98 disc brakes used the same calipers that the 1968 A-body did. I've got a couple sets of the A-body ones and a partial set from I believe a Delta 88. The calipers have the same casting numbers, although the rotors are significantly different. I was trying to located a tape measure before it got dark and didn't make it. But I've got several photos I'm going to put in the next post to share what I was looking at. I've also got a partial disc brake setup from a 1967 Toronado but the 4 piston calipers are significantly different looking for the Toronado. Does anybody have a good reference book to verify what I'm seeing? I know this won't help with rotors, but it may help someone looking for a replacement caliper to know what it interchanges with. The A body is the complete setup. The loose caliper on top is from the Delta 88
The A body is the one on the rotor. The loose caliper on top is from the Delta 88
B body left, A body right
B body left, A body right
A body on top of the B body rotor. Diameter difference may be an inch or less?

The B/C-body rotors are 1.25", the A-body are 1". The calipers may have started with the same castings, but the finish-machined parts are different and carry different part numbers. It's possible the castings destined for A-body calipers were simply machined a little more on the mating surfaces to adapt them to the correct rotor thickness.

Maybe interesting to learn ----
their Brake Pad for both of them --- 1967 - 1968 ONLY (but it does do the large majority of the 1967 - 1968 GM Disc Brake world of OLDS, CHEVY & PONTIAC)
is the old " D3 " or 762 D 3 ---- and you know it, I have them in N,O.S> Stock ++ASbestos ++ Brake Pads.....
