72 front drums

72 front drums

Good morning
I cant seem to get on to one of the wheel cyl. Mounting bolts because some of the linckage is in the way. Anyone else run into this problem? Do i need to unbolt they backing plate and the big nut just abouve the wheel cyl?

I did it without unbolting anything else, but it was a real PITA to be sure. I wound up threading the brakeline in before the cylinder bolts just to get enough wiggle room to make it happen. Had to crank the wheel hard over too.


I'm interested to see if there is a better way too!

I always turn the wheel all the way to the right or left depending on which side I'm working with. Sometimes its easier to install the problematic bolt first with the wheel cylinder pushed out and then tighten and draw it into the slot it fits in.

The problem is getting the old one off. I have the wheel cranked over but i cant get the socket or wrench to fit over the head because this piece prevents a snug fit. Im afraid im gonna strip it. Ill try and take pic.

Finally got it off. Had to heat and bend a wrench to the right angle.

Seperate question....are the front shoes 9.5 by 2.5 or 9.5 by 2?

Im at work and want to order so i cant measure right now. Lol

Front are 2.5 wide
