Peer booster rod to clevis length

Working on 71 Cutlass. Having an issue getting the rod correct. I don't have the original to compare. Can I cut some length from the threaded bolt? What would you guys do? Right Stuff Detailing puts me on hold and I need to get this done. Thanks.

Adjust for a pedal free play of 1/16th to a 1/4 inch.

Without the extension it is too short and not close. With the extension bottomed out it is way too long. Top hole for power brakes right.

Nope bottom hole, top is for manual brakes.
